Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Business Operations, the Financial Administrator is part of an 8-member finance team, including senior sponsored research administrators, which performs diverse and complex accounting and financial management duties for IQSS and its various research groups that range across Harvard schools as part of our status as an Interfaculty Initiative.


Position Description

  • Financial advisory and oversight responsibilities for the Center for Geographic Analysis (CGA), including internal billings and collections, journals, complex monthly financial reporting and analysis, and forecasting.
  • Download data from HART and prepare monthly and ad hoc financial reporting and analysis to IQSS internal units and faculty with non-sponsored funds at IQSS.
  • Maintain Core Funds report and Reserves report for IQSS Director of Business Operations.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Business Operations on Undergraduate Research Scholars (URS) program to manage this initiative, including managing the budget, evaluating faculty requests, strategizing on long-term sustainability and funding, and helping to find undergraduate researchers.
  • Serve as Buy2Pay approver and Concur expense approver for IQSS/HMDC/CGA and all other non-sponsored funds and projects.  Serve as secondary reviewer in PCard settlement system.
  • Prepare high level financial reports for use in the annual steering committee meeting and other funding requests and proposals (i.e. Provost and FAS funding applications).
  • Serve as backup payroll administrator for weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly payrolls.
  • Other Financial Duties as required.

Basic Qualifications

Minimum five years of relevant financial experience required. Degree in Accounting/Finance/related field may be counted toward years of experience.


Additional Qualifications and Skills

Advanced level Excel experience required. Strong written and oral communication skills required. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision required. Must have ability to handle complex and confidential information with discretion. Bachelor's degree preferred. Knowledge of and experience with Harvard financial systems preferred.

Additional Information

This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension based on funding and performance. This is a part-time (20 hr/week) position. Screenings required: Identity; Criminal.
