Job Overview

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Cincinnati is accepting applications for an open Financial Administrator 1 position. This position reports to the Business Manager and performs a variety of purchasing transactions, prepares various reports, and provides administrative support functions for the Department of Chemistry.  The person in this role is responsible for a large volume of purchasing due to a high volume of research grants and a significant number of student laboratories.


Essential Functions
  • Coordinate and monitor administrative duties.
  • Assist in the development of unit policies and procedures.
  • Monitor the financial status of unit programs and other budget allocations.
  • Implement policies to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Prepare reports.
  • May coordinate personnel functions for an operating unit at less than 25% of duties.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need.

Required Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree must be in accounting or related field.
  • Four (4) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Experience

Related finance or accounting experience.


Additional Qualifications Considered
  •  Strong customer service and organizational skills
  •  Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and strong interpersonal skills
  •  Prior experience in purchasing particularly using and accounting for Purchasing Card purchases and Purchasing Requisition purchase
  •  Must be able to work independently and meet deadlines
  •  Strong computer background using MS-Office 365 and MS-Excel.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment
  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
