Job Description

The Financial Accountant I is responsible for performing financial reporting and serving as a resource in all areas of operations within the Budgets & Accounting Department. This position reports to and works closely with the Budgets & Accounting Department Head.
 

Responsibilities:

-Assists with the preparation of financial reports, including annual operating budget, annual financial report, legislative appropriation request, research expenditures report and other required or ad how reports.

-Performs analyses, prepares entries and audits activity.

-Serves as a resource to departmental staff and other agency staff on accounting related issues.

-Serves as a check signer and releases batches in USAS.

-Serves as additional resource for establishing vendor IDs in FAMIS and TINS. Verifies W-9 taxpayer identification numbers using IRS TINS Matching Website. Prepares documentation for filing.

-Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Required Education:  Bachelor’s degree in business-related field.

Preferred Education:  Accounting or Finance Major

Required Experience:  None. Entry level position.

Preferred Experience:  Experience in fiscal office operation at a Texas A&M University System institution.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Required Knowledge:  Word and Excel. Advanced knowledge of governmental and higher education fiscal operations. Advanced knowledge of FAMIS and USAS.

Required Skills:  Sound judgement. Great attention to detail. Strong interpersonal skills.

Required Abilities:  Comprehend and apply rules and regulations. Work independently and perform duties in a time sensitive environment. Multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Licenses, Certifications or Registrations:

Required:  Texas drivers license
