Position Summary
Under guidance, the Finance and Operations Administrator is responsible for the strategic planning and daily operations of the department, including budgeting and financial forecasting, facility management, and enforcement of departmental policies and procedures.
Job Responsibilities

  • Creates and maintains operating budgets.
  • Reviews and analyzes accounting and management reports to monitor variances from approved budget. Escalates review of unfavorable variances and recommends solutions. Implements and follows up on corrective action plans.
  • Monitors and reconciles departmental accounts within the financial management system.
  • Serves as business manager for the Environmental Health and Safety international shipping program. Provides strategic planning, develops financial reporting and acts as a liaison to external clients.
  • Manages vendor relationships, including cost comparisons and negotiating contracts.
  • Assesses the functional needs of EHS technical staff and ensures requests for proposals and contracts with vendors are developed and maintained in accordance with departmental and institutional standards.
  • Provides administrative and communications support to the EHS emergency operations team. Assesses incident reports and implements response protocols.
  • Oversees the annual budget for information systems, equipment and related services.
  • Coordinates staff access to information systems during on/off boarding processes.
  • Supervises shipping manager and support staff who have technical expertise and responsibility for day-to-day operation of the Environmental Health and Safety international shipping program.
  • Assists in the preparation of the annual budget submission and projections. Supports and monitors research-related financial activities to ensure compliance with institutional and funding agency regulations.
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field
Experience
  • Approximately 4 years of related experience, preferably in an academic healthcare or research setting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Advanced problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Ability to handle multiple simultaneous demands and prioritize work.
