Description of Work Unit

Position Summary
The Field Education Program Coordinator in The School of Social Work is a position embedded within the instructional framework of the School of Social Work. The Field Education Program Coordinator must be skilled in working with students who hold varied and intersecting identities, including diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, first generation students, international students, students with DACA status, students who speak multiple languages, students who are LGBTQIA+, and others. As the practice-based learning experiences within the internship are of equal importance to classroom experiences in the curriculum per the Council of Social Work Education, the position coordinates, advises, manages, and oversees the required student internship experiences. This position provides oversight of Field Instructors and Field Supervisors to assure learning outcomes are met throughout the internship.
The Field Education Program Coordinator provides direct placement, advising, and informal instruction, support, management, and oversight of course requirements for students within their
practice-based learning experiences in order for students to implement and complete the Bachelor’s or Masters of Social Work (BSW or MSW) degree program according to accreditation standards. The Field Education Program Coordinator is responsible for managing, coordinating, and tracking the grading submitted by the Field Instructor, Field Supervisor, and Field Liaison of every student in the assigned field courses. They consult with a team of Field Instructors, Site-Supervisors, and Field Liaisons to support the monitoring of growth and learning in accordance with the individualized student learning plan covering the competency areas. The Field Education Program Coordinator ensures students meet their required professional and practice-based learning goals toward the achievement of their degree.
The Field Education Program Coordinator assists in developing the School’s multiple community partnerships to implement the field education requirements. Community partners collaborate to support student learning experiences for the fulfillment of the BSW and MSW field education requirements. The Field Education Program Coordinator works collaboratively as part of the Field Team to ensure learning experiences laid out in the student learning outcomes plan align with BSW and MSW Program requirements. The Field Education Program Coordinator additionally collaborates with the instructor for the Field Seminar courses as needed. Other duties as assigned are often embedded within the framework of this position.

Required Job Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Social Work from a CSWE accredited program
  • Completed 2 years of post-degree practice experience
  • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date

Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Completed 3 or more years of post-degree practice experience
  • Demonstrated experience in the social work field using advanced generalist knowledge, values, and skills
  • Experience as an MSW or BSW field instructor and/or field liaison
  • Experience with developing and delivering training for adult professionals
  • Familiarity with Colorado based social/human services systems and agencies
  • Familiarity with digital and on-line communications, learning software, computer databases
  • Fluency in Spanish with minimum of conversational ability
  • Experience living within or collaborating with institutionally under-resourced communities
  • Experience and enthusiasm for working with diverse individuals as a supervisor and/or mentor

Management duties include but are not limited to:
  • Working closely with the Field Education Program Director and Field Team to monitor and continuously improve the quality of the Field Education Program in compliance with the CSWE Education Policy and Standards and in alignment with the BSW and MSW Programs
  • Managing the implementation of the field education placement process for BSW and/or MSW students
  • Database information management
  • Managing training and instructional supports for students connected to the internship team and agency partners and other duties as assigned
  • Assuring that assessment data are collected from Field Instructors
  • Assuring that all documentation is completed for all students for field coursework (learning plans, mid-term and final evaluations and other required documentation)
  • Collaborating as part of the Field Team to engage in continuous improvement monitoring processes to assess and evaluate the effectiveness of the field learning processes, learning platforms, and evaluation information in alignment with the BSW and MSW Programs.
  • Assessing, updating, and enhancing the student learning and community partner experiences throughout the year to continuously improve the quality of the Field Education Program and comply with CSWE policy and accreditation standards in alignment with the BSW and MSW Program requirements.
  • Support development of new agency partnerships across local. state, national, and international communities to expand partnerships that are responsive to changing environments and communities within practice-based contexts
  • Support and maintain existing agency learning partnerships within the community
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Instructor of record for required practicum courses in the social work program
  • Student support and assessment:
  • Teaches/advises, guides, and leads students on an as needed basis to meet field education practicum course requirements for graduation
  • Provides direct training, support, management, and oversight for the school’s multiple community partners around the implementation for required practice-based learning frameworks and requirements for the practicums
  • Compiles assessment of student learning in collaboration with the team of Field Instructors, Site Supervisors and Field Liaisons
  • Responsible for facilitating student planning and placement decisions.
  • Create and develop student-centered placement processes for the assignment into practicum placements
  • Develop, update, and maintain best practices for delivery of student trainings and orientations
  • Contributes to and engages with the Curriculum Task Chair and School Curriculum Committee for curriculum changes, updates, and enhancements with review and approval of School Council
  • Collaborate on activities, trainings, and projects within the Field Team as assigned and as required to fully support student learning and community partnerships
  • Ongoing alignment with BSW and MSW Program instructional planning and frameworks
  • Collaborate to address student and agency conflicts within the scope of the internship class
  • Consultation with Field Director as needed and as appropriate
  • Addresses crisis situations and refers out to university and agency partners as appropriate
  • Continuously assesses student readiness and preparedness for the Field Education experience and is able to connect students to University resources as needed
  • Provide mentorship and professional guidance for students
  • Other duties as assigned
