Job Summary:
Our world-renowned heart study, in partnership with Boston University, is looking for a Research Specialist (RS) to join our team and actively participate in the evaluation of our volunteer participants who range in age from 40 to over 100 years old. If you are a self-starter, like to learn, love working with people and are interested in working in a fast-paced, highly collaborative, and supportive team environment, this job is for you.

Duties/Responsibilities: Our highest priority is to engage with our volunteer participants and make them feel welcome and appreciated while collecting data in accordance with the study protocol. You will screen and register our volunteer participants for a blood pressure testing program. You will administer questionnaires, take body measurements (height, weight etc.), place a device that continuously monitors blood pressure, administer a series of tasks to participants while they wear the device, clean and store the device(s) and download data from them. No specific experience related to the device or tests is necessary; we will train you. Your ability to proactively anticipate, identify and mitigate potential issues before they arise is key to being a successful RS. You will also provide some administrative support to the team, to ensure quality and consistency of exam operations.

After 1 year in this position, the successful Research Specialist should be able to assist the Manager with other duties, such as directing flow of participants through the exam, managing supply ordering, and running the daily operations of the Exam Center when Manager is away.

Schedule Typically, Monday-Friday, 7am-3pm but varies slightly depending on daily schedule (i.e.., 7:30-3:30 or 6:30-2:30) Very occasional Saturdays required (2 or 3 in Spring and 2 or 3 in Fall).

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree
  • 1-3 years full-time work experience
  • Some familiarity with basic medical terminology, such a meaning of pulse rate, blood pressure etc. is desirable
  • Ability to create research project quality control reports is desirable


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand/walk for much of the day
