Sr Planning Analyst

Job Description

The ASU Actionable Analytics team is looking for a Features Analyst, Sr. to support its efforts related to predictive modeling, exploratory data analysis, data extraction, reporting, and data visualization. 

This position is expected to be on-site at ASU’s campus in Tempe, Arizona. Hybrid opportunities may be available. Out-of-area candidates are invited to apply; relocation expenses are not covered.

Essential Duties

  • Assists with all phases of predictive model development and exploratory data analysis with an emphasis on data acquisition and extraction, data cleaning, data exploration, feature creation.
  • Supports data scientists and developers on model development, model validation/testing, model deployment, model monitoring, and model support.
  • Leads efforts related to the exploration, development, testing, and monitoring of model features / variables in collaboration with other team members.
  • Extracts, analyzes, and interprets quantitative and qualitative data; reviews and validates results with team members to ensure accuracy.
  • Creates and maintains data files and data tables.
  • Communicates with internal and external constituencies to obtain necessary information, including the preparation of technical reports, presentations, and data visualizations.
  • Selects, and/or recommends appropriate research design methodologies, data analyses, and statistical procedures in collaboration with data scientists.
  • Utilizes a variety of statistical computer programs and software to perform data extraction, computation, and statistical analysis as needed.
  • Manages projects and serves on committees as requested. 
  • Provides mentorship to features analysts, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and three (3) years of experience in conducting research, statistical analyses or planning; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience leading or assisting with all phases of predictive model development with an emphasis on data acquisition and extraction, data cleaning, data exploration, feature creation.
  • Experience leading efforts related to the exploration, development, testing, and monitoring of model features / variables in collaboration with other team members.
  • Experience curating, documenting, and maintaining a knowledge base of relevant research, articles, and model results.
  • Proficient in one or more languages used for conducting statistical analyses (e.g., Python, R, SAS, etc.).
  • Experience in writing and executing intermediate-to-advanced SQL queries and/or Alteryx workflows.
  • Experience conducting research and analyses in a higher education setting.
  • Experience using Tableau or equivalent data visualization software.

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of staying in a stationary position and manipulating a computer
  • Required to traverse moderate distances to perform work 
  • Ability to clearly express oneself and effectively exchange information to perform essential functions
  • Frequent moving, transporting, and positioning up to 25 pounds 
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include or are subject to resolution of conflicts
