Job Summary:

The Office of Medical Education is searching for an Evidence-Based Medicine Contributor for the Trek Curriculum of MD Program with a start date of approximately July 1, 2024. This 0.10 FTE position serves in conjunction with other Anschutz Medical Campus (AMC) and Colorado State University (CSU) faculty and staff to prepare CU’s physician graduates to be systems thinkers, who provide exemplary patient and family-centered care.  

The Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) Content Contributor is responsible for working with the faculty team at CUSOM at CSU in addition to faculty leadership at the Anschutz campus to develop or update, implement, evaluate, and continuously improve components of the Trek curriculum in which they have expertise. The EBM Content Director will be responsible for teaching evidence-based medicine sessions across the four years of the required curriculum. Most EBM sessions are composed of 1-2 hours of didactic teaching and 1-2 hours of small group work with students.

Plains Curriculum

  • Intro to Evidence-Based Medicine
  • Randomized Controlled Trials (RCT) Part 1
  • Randomized Controlled Trails (RCT) Part 2
  • Diagnostic studies
  • Cohort Studies Part 1
  • Cohort studies Part 2
  • Case-Control Studies
  • Cross-Sectional Studies
  • Systemic Review

Foothills Basecamp and LIC Curriculum

  • Foundational Clinical questions
  • Inquiry for All including evaluating research and clinical decision aids

Alpine Basecamp Curriculum

  • Patient/Population, Interventions, Comparison and Outcomes (PICO) questions, methodology review 

Supervision Received: The position reports to the Assistant Dean of Medical Education at the Fort Collins Branch campus and works closely with the faculty leadership of the curricular pillars and phases.

Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Material Development and Review:

  • Review and be aware of learning materials created by the Anschutz EBM faculty team.
  • Credit any materials that are used.
  • Create or update learning materials for these sessions.
  • Review assessment questions on these topics.

Student Support and Assessment:

  • Grade make-up assignments if students miss a small group session.
  • Provide individual remediation to review material with individual students if needed.
  • Review all course evaluations annually and participate in the CQI process for the following year.
  • Ensure all grades are submitted in a timely manner.

Curriculum Development and Oversight:

  • Collaborate with the Anschutz EBM team to ensure syllabi, course materials, schedules, and other content are of high quality, current, posted, easily accessible, and reflect the educational objectives and content being delivered.
  • Modify existing or develop new curricula or methods of delivery based on needs, changing LCME requirements, and as charged by curriculum oversight bodies.

Faculty Support and Recruitment:

  • Serve as a resource and communicate in a timely manner with students, administrative staff, and faculty.
  • Recruit other faculty to teach sessions if needed.

Student Welfare and Professional Environment:

  • Refer all students with academic or personal difficulty to the Office of Student Life and work with the Success Team to develop and implement appropriate remediation plans.
  • Assure a professional learning climate.

Work Location:

Hybrid – this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule with select days per week on campus and as needed for in-person sessions/meetings. The position on-site location will be in Fort Collins, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:  

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Instructor, Senior Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:

Instructor:

  • Master’s Degree (or higher) in healthcare or related field, ex. MPH,MS,PA, etc.
  • Candidates must be able to obtain a faculty appointment (open rank) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine

Sr. Instructor:

  • M.D., D.O., D.M.V, Ph.D. Degree or equivalent with a concentration in healthcare and education and medical licensure in the State of Colorado.
  • Candidates must be able to obtain a faculty appointment (open rank) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine

Assistant Professor:

  • M.D., D.O., D.M.V, Ph.D. Degree or equivalent with a concentration in healthcare and education and medical licensure in the State of Colorado.
  • Candidates must be able to obtain a faculty appointment (open rank) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine

Associate Professor:

  • M.D., D.O., D.M.V, Ph.D. Degree or equivalent with a concentration in healthcare and education and medical licensure in the State of Colorado.

Professor:
