Position Summary
This position will be responsible for planning, conducting, and monitoring research projects within the Department of Family Medicine. The principal investigator(s) rely heavily on this position for successful completion of all aspects of research, including but not limited to: performing literature searches, conducting quantitative analysis, conducting qualitative and survey research, data management, data cleaning, and data analysis, editing and formatting manuscripts and reports, and financial management, among other research related activities. The position will work independently to manage multiple projects/demands and is responsible for communicating directly with investigators, sponsors, regulatory bodies, participants, and the study team. Additionally, the position will be able to take the lead on internal and external projects as they arise.
Represent PIs and Department through presentation, networking and participation at state and national meetings and meetings. Identify new opportunities for the research team and work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure mutually beneficial programs and projects. Assist with grant writing and submission, reporting activities to funding agencies, and ensuring compliance with grant requirements. Plan, implement, and administer large and multi-center research projects. 
Work with faculty, staff, and partner organizations to achieve strategic grant deliverables by developing and managing project workplans. Create and oversee timelines, monitor deadlines, and prepare status reports. Rigorously assess feasibility of work plans and progress; anticipate issues in need of resolution; research, develop and implement alternative methods when needed; and keep the PIs informed. Assess ongoing activities and maintain communications among project leadership, staff, contractors, and other partners to ensure roles and responsibilities are defined, priorities are established and maintained, and strategic goals are achieved on time and on budget. 
Act as a liaison between PI and rest of the Department of Family Medicine Research Section, other sections of the Department, and UNC School of Medicine. Interface and facilitate meetings and events with researchers, policy makers and relevant stakeholders. Develop, submit and monitor Institutional Review Board (IRB) study protocols, maintain study documentation, and ensure that all research activities conform to departmental and regulatory guidelines. Monitor grant and contract progress against goals and objectives. Address technical, quality and teamwork challenges, as needed, to meet contract and grant deliverables. Develop monthly budget associated with research projects and calculate study-related costs.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Must have experience writing/editing, project management, familiarity with data analysis software, and ability to perform descriptive data analysis.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience with Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions, experience with programming in SAS, Stata or related package, and experience working on research teams.
