Major Duties

Under general supervision, the Family Medicine and Primary Care Physician performs medical diagnostic and treatment under the scope of a Board Certified Family Medicine Physician, consistent with college student primary care and the prevailing standards of care among Primary Care Physicians in the Southern California area. The incumbent is responsible for all actions taken as a licensed California physician as outlined by the Medical Board of California.

  • Provides direct patient care covering the full scope of student health needs in a primary care setting.
  • Responsible for interviewing patients, diagnosing medical problems, prescribing treatment, counseling patients, conducting physical examinations, referring patients to specialists within and outside the SHC, and ordering and interpreting X-ray and lab tests.
  • Provide sexual health education, counseling, and care, including administration of medication abortion services.
  • Performs minor surgery not including general anesthesia.  As necessary, consult with private physicians and public agencies in securing treatment for students requiring services beyond those available at the Student Health Center.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from a medical school and completion of a residency training program in a primary care field such as family medicine, general internal medicine, gynecology, general pediatrics, emergency medicine, or preventive medicine accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or equivalent.

License and Certification:

  • A valid State of California license to practice medicine.
  • Current American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) board certification appropriate for the assigned duties.
  • A valid Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration and number for prescribing controlled substances.
  • Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator (CPR/AED) certification as appropriate for the assigned duties.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of and the ability to effectively and efficiently apply the principles and methods essential to the diagnosis and treatment of common primary care medical disorders, and in the assessment and response to acute medical situations; and understanding of community resources for referral of medical care and treatment beyond the scope of the Student Health Center.
  • Knowledge of current public health practices; local, state, and national laws and regulations about the medical field; and thorough knowledge of applicable professional ethics standards and patient privacy.
  • Ability to serve as a mentor and resource consultant for other health center personnel; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of medical practitioners and specialists, as well as students, administrators, staff, and faculty.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver and more.
  • Classification: Physician-Primary Care / 7737 / grade 1
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $14,685.60 - $15,600 (part-time equivalent) per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $10,724.80 - $16,559.20 (part-time equivalent) per month.
  • HOURS: Part Time; 32 hours per week; Monday through Friday; may include evenings and weekends.  
  • This is a Temporary position; end date to be determined.
