Position Announcement

The Art & Design Department at Utah Valley University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Motion Design to begin August 2024. We seek a compelling artist/designer and a collaborative educator who will teach undergraduate courses in Motion Graphics and/or 3D animation catered to new entertainment, film, and games industries and motivate students to create compelling work. If requested, the candidate must be willing to serve on a rotation as the area coordinator. Coordinator duties include overseeing curriculum, supervising student activities and instruction, scheduling of courses, hiring, and overseeing adjunct instructors and managing the area budget.
 
Tenure-track faculty will maintain an ongoing creative/scholarly/professional agenda and contribute to department, school, and university service.
 
The candidate is expected to demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence, as well as to teaching diverse learners and modeling inclusive practices. Summary of Responsibilities

  • Teaches and supervises undergraduate courses in Motion Graphics/3D Animation. Plans, prepares, and implements an approved course of study. Prepares instructional materials (demos, visual presentations, online materials) as necessary. Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms/labs or online courses by using methods such as lectures, demonstrations, discussions, and visual aids. Mentor students outside of class time. Maintains and submits accurate and current reports and records regarding student grading, attendance, and performance.
  • Devotes time to creative/scholarly/professional activities.
  • Devotes time to department, school, and university service.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with an appropriate degree in a related field to the coursework being taught. MFA degree or equivalent in Motion Design, 3D Animation, or related field of study. Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content.
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional Motion Design, 3D animation or related industry experience preferred. College level Motion Design, 3D animation or related teaching experience preferred.

  • Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

    Knowledge:

    • Knowledge of the Motion Graphics-3D Animation workflow, practice, and theory
    • Knowledge of student management, motivation and evaluation techniques
    • Knowledge of Apple and PC computer hardware 
    • Experience with a variety of teaching methods and/or curricular perspectives
    Skills:
    • Skills and experience with current 3D Software (Cinema 4D or Maya), and the Adobe Creative Suite
    • Skills in Motion Graphics and/or Animation
    • Skills in 3D Sculpting (ZBrush), 3D Modeling, Substance Painter, and/or Digital Painting, are a plus
    • Skills in interpersonal relationships, problem-solving and decision-making
    •  Excellent communication skills
    Abilities:
    • Practice and teach the Motion Graphics-3D Animation workflow
    • Ability to mentor and motivate students
    • Ability to relate well with students and colleagues
    • Ability to evaluate student work effectively both orally and in writing
    • Ability to apply appropriate technology in classroom teaching
