KENT STATE UNIVERSITY’S SCHOOL OF MUSIC SEEKS AN ARTIST/TEACHER OF FLUTE AT THE RANK OF ASSISTANT PROFESSOR WITH A DEMONSTRATED COMMITMENT TO SUPPORTING A THRIVING AND DIVERSE MUSIC PROGRAM FOR A FULL-TIME, TENURE TRACK POSITION TO BEGIN AUGUST 15, 2024.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

TEACH UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE APPLIED FLUTE AND RELATED COURSES, COACH CHAMBER MUSIC, OVERSEE FLUTE DEGREE RECITALS, RECRUIT AND RETAIN AN APPROPRIATE NUMBER OF FLUTE STUDENTS,  TEACH COURSES IN OTHERS AREAS AS ALIGNED WITH THE STRENGTHS AND EXPERTISE OF THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE AND NEEDS OF THE SCHOOL OF MUSIC; CONTRIBUTE TO THE PROGRAM, SCHOOL, UNIVERSITY, AND PROFESSION THROUGH RECRUITMENT, OUTREACH AND SERVICE; MAINTAIN AN ACTIVE PROFILE IN SCHOLARLY, CREATIVE, AND PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES IN LINE WITH EXPECTATIONS ESTABLISHED BY THE SOM FACULTY HANDBOOK AND CBA. OTHER RELATED DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.

Minimum Qualifications:

EARNED DOCTORATE IN MUSIC, OR EQUIVALENT PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE; EVIDENCE OF A HIGH LEVEL OF ARTISTRY IN SOLO FLUTE AND ENSEMBLE PERFORMANCE, EVIDENCE OF SUCCESS AND EXPERIENCE IN TEACHING; DEMONSTRATED RECORD OF WORKING EFFECTIVELY AND COLLEGIALLY WITH FACULTY, STAFF, AND STUDENTS FROM DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS; EVIDENCE OF THE POTENTIAL TO ESTABLISH A PORTFOLIO OF RESEARCH/CREATIVE WORK AT A NATIONAL LEVEL

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

DOCUMENTED SUCCESS WITH ADMINISTRATION AND RECRUITMENT OF A COLLEGIATE FLUTE STUDIO; EXPERIENCE TEACHING IN A SECONDARY AREA OF EXPERTISE; ESTABLISHED RECORD AS A PERFORMING ARTIST

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Light work-Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.
