Scope of Job
Provides management for the area of faculty relations and success. Responsible for providing guidance on complex issues related to faculty performance management, attendance, conflict management, and other reported personnel issues.
Description of Duties
  • Provides guidance on faculty-related policies and practices including, but not limited to, performance management, disciplinary actions and administration, and other work related issues.
  • Coordinates and participates in timely investigations of complaints or grievances as they relate to employment, termination and unemployment.
  • Evaluates, prepares and presents documentation regarding the recommendations for corrective or disciplinary actions to academic leadership in collaboration with Human Resources.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources, Legal, and Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs to determine necessary plan of action and offer recommendations.
  • Ensures communication with Human Resources on pending actions/cases, as applicable.
  • Proposes and coordinates process for faculty grievances in accordance with institutional HOP policies and procedures.
  • Prepares and presents reports, proposals, operations and procedures, written materials and documentation to superiors and external stakeholders as requested.
  • Administers, coordinates and manages activities involved in faculty development or leadership programs or projects as assigned.
  • Develops and implements standards for attainment of Faculty Affairs program goals and objectives.
  • Determines and assesses work priorities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Direct supervision of assigned staff.
Required Education
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
Preferred Education
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or closely related field.
Licenses/Certifications
None.
Required Experience
Five (5) years of professional experience working with faculty in academia, including three (3) years experience in Human Resources or operations in closely related field.
Preferred Experience
None.
Equipment
Use of standard office equipment.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office environment; some travel and weekend work is required. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment.
Other
Exceptional planning and organizational skills. Ability to interact in a professional manner with faculty, staff, students and the public. Ability to handle ambiguous and difficult faculty-related issues with tact and diplomacy. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of federal, state and local laws.
