The Coastal Oregon Marine Experiment Station invites applications for a part-time (0.75 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term Faculty Research Assistant position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Director.
This position is responsible for executing projects performed within the Integrated and Marine Fisheries Lab at OSU and will report directly to Dr. Cheryl Barnes. The incumbent will perform a variety of tasks to help scientists at OSU and NOAA conduct a climate vulnerability assessment (CVA) in the Gulf of Alaska. This will involve working closely with fishery stakeholders and combining a variety of methods (quantitative and qualitative) to identify risks to fisheries sustainability in the face of climate change. This faculty research assistant (FRA) will be responsible for collecting and analyzing data, synthesizing and presenting results to various groups, and publishing one or more peer-reviewed journal articles. The FRA is also expected to manage at least 1-2 undergraduate students.
There may also be opportunities to develop original research questions designed to inform marine resource management in the North Pacific Ocean. The incumbent may assist with writing grant proposals to support additional research.
This position is based at the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, OR.
As a member of the Coastal Oregon Marine Experiment Station (COMES), the incumbent will be expected to work closely with state and federal agencies, nonprofit organizations, and coastal communities in support of the COMES mission
