OSU Libraries and Press is seeking a Faculty Research Assistant. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) 12-month, fixed-term position.
The Faculty Research Assistant (FRA) performs cataloging of monograph and Special Collections resources for all RDA media types collected by the library. This includes resources in English as well as other languages. The position assigns Library of Congress call numbers, uses Library of Congress subject headings, and performs name authority work. This position performs copy, complex, and original cataloging using advanced knowledge of library and information procedures, services, and resources. The FRA will contribute to the cataloging of other materials and do project work as needed. The position classifies and provides subject analysis. The FRA assists the Lead Cataloger with training other catalogers and serves as a project lead. The position may supervise student employees and is responsible for hiring, training, and leading their daily work. The FRA contributes to departmental research and assessment activities. The position collaborates with colleagues across library departments and in professional organizations and societies and engages in service activities.

Minimum Qualifications (Staff) / Guidelines (Faculty):

Requires Bachelor's degree in discipline appropriate to the field in which research is being conducted.

Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field.
  • Minimum of 3 years library experience.
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of original cataloging, including bibliographic and authority data, MARC21, RDA, AACR2, LCC, and LCSH.
  • Experience with monograph or special collections cataloging.
  • Experience cataloging a variety of formats.
  • Ability to work in a flexible and changing environment, including adapting to changes in priorities, responsibilities, and duties.
  • A strong customer service orientation.

Type:


This is primarily an onsite position. There may be some remote work as duties allow. This position is in a library environment with exposure to fluorescent lighting. You may work with damaged materials that may include, but not limited to, dust, dirt, and on occasion, mold, and pests. Personal protection equipment such as gloves and masks will be available when needed. The work may be physically demanding with constant standing, reaching, lifting, carrying, and pushing/pulling book carts. Much of the work schedule involves working at a computer workstation. The work schedule is primarily daytime hours during the business week.

Additional Salary Information: $62,400-$67,200
