The Department of Botany & Plant Pathology invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term Faculty Research Assistant position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Department Head.
Reappointment will occur on an annual basis at the discretion of the Department Head and dependent on the availability of funds.
The incumbent will do research in the Chang laboratory. The focus of the research will be on computational biology particularly in the areas of bacterial population genomics, molecular diagnostics, oomycete genomics, and Nextflow pipeline development. They will also contribute to general laboratory upkeep and mentoring undergraduate students in the laboratory.

Key Responsibilities
80%
Research and scholarship: design experiments, collect data, analyze data, present results in group meetings, and prepare manuscripts.
10%
Assist with general laboratory upkeep including ordering of supplies and organizing digital collections.
10%
Assist with mentoring of undergraduate students working in the laboratory.
What You Will Need
Bachelor’s degree in Mathematical Biology, Computational Biology, or closely related field.
Research experience in a molecular plant pathology laboratory; demonstrable experience with R, bash scripting, Python programming, and Nextflow, and experience working with bacterial and eukaryotic genomics.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule
Work will primarily take place in Cordley Hall Rm 3602 (research laboratory) as well as additional rooms in Cordley Hall housing common-use laboratory equipment.
