Faculty Professor Teaching Assistant - Full-Time

The Department of Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for three full-time faculty positions at the level of Teaching Assistant Professor in Psychology. We are searching for at least one candidate qualified to teach Psychopathology, Personality, or other Clinical courses, and at least one candidate in any area of specialization (Research Methods, Developmental, Social, Cognitive, or Biological/Health). We value courses that include a diversity focus and we encourage candidates to describe how they will bring diversity, equity, and inclusion into their courses.

These positions are pending budgetary approval and are outside the tenure stream. They would begin in the Fall 2024 semester, with an initial appointment of three years and subsequent renewals of three years subject to performance reviews and departmental needs. Applicants are encouraged to review the University of Pittsburgh’s promotion system for Teaching Professors. Teaching Professors in Psychology are full-time faculty appointed for 8 months each year (September through April) and teach three undergraduate courses per semester during the fall and spring semesters. The successful candidates will join a community of teaching-focused faculty who provide department-wide teaching mentorship. Teaching Professors have the opportunity to mentor undergraduates in teaching and research, mentor graduate students in teaching, and participate in a vibrant, teaching-focused community within the department and the University. The department also has an active Psychology Equity and Inclusion Committee (PEIC) that aims to advance the department’s goal of inclusive excellence.

Required qualifications are a PhD or equivalent in Psychology or a related field, and evidence of high-quality undergraduate teaching in Psychology.

· A curriculum vitae that clearly enumerates the candidate’s education, and teaching experience (i.e., the number of unique courses, the number of times each course has been taught, the size and format of each class, and whether the candidate was an instructor of record), mentoring experience, and service roles

· A teaching statement that includes teaching philosophy (with examples, where relevant), teaching experience, and teaching interests

· Recent quantitative and qualitative student evaluations of teaching, including original student responses in addition to any summaries

· A diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) statement that includes the candidate’s general understanding of DEI; the candidate’s incorporation of DEI into their teaching; the candidate’s record of relevant activities such as service and mentoring; and the candidate’s specific plans and goals for advancing DEI at the University of Pittsburgh (see www.diversity.pitt.edu).
