Research Assistant Professor – Full Time

 

DEPARTMENT/DIVISION:

 The University of Pittsburgh in the Division of Hepatic, Kidney, and Transplantation Pathology, Department of Pathology, and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center is seeking a successful candidate who will contribute to varied research activities in the Laboratory of Dr. Anthony J. Demetris. 

 

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

Responsibilities will include the design and execution of experimental plans, analysis, and presentation of data as well as other assignments related to scientific development (e.g. writing manuscripts, reviews, and supervising/teaching other fellows).  Studies focus on human organ-based immunology with respect to allograft and tumor rejection and tolerance and mechanical extra-corporeal perfusion studies using tissue samples subjected to multiplex labeling, digital imaging with image analysis, and spatial genomics and proteomics.  The position will be responsible for participation in seminars, professional development opportunities, manuscript preparation and publication, and presentations at scientific meetings.  To ensure candidate’s successful advancement, feedback and performance evaluations will be provided.

 

JOB DUTIES:

A Research Assistant Professor position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Anthony J. Demetris, Department of Pathology, Division of Hepatic and Transplantation Pathology. The Research Histology Services (RHS) lab provides routine and specialized histology, single and multiplex immunohistochemistry, digital slide scanning, image analysis,  and spatial genomics and proteomics.  The lab operates in a collaborative manner serving as the Core Pathology, Digital Imaging, Image Analysis, and Spatial Genomics and Proteomic Laboratory for corporate and NIH-sponsored multicenter clinical trials involving immunosuppression modulation and mechanical extra-corporeal perfusion trials.  This position is responsible for supporting the Principal Investigator, building relationships, and working collaboratively with other researchers and clinician scientists to develop and troubleshoot new/complex protocols for implementation in RHS while participating in existing funded research.  Candidates should have proven skills and expertise in analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills.  In addition, they will need to demonstrate a working knowledge of standard laboratory operating procedures, policies, and equipment as well as maintenance of CAP and CLIA certifications. They will oversee multiple large clinical trials, train team members on specialized experimental techniques, and assist in the writing of manuscripts and grant proposals.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.     PhD, MD/PhD, or MD degree. Training in medicine and organ-based immunobiology, digital imaging, image analysis, spatial genomics, and proteomics is an attractive attribute for the position.

2.     Work Experience of at least 5 years conducting independent experiments related to organ-based tissue biology, digital imaging, and image and mRNA expression analysis and interpretation, writing skills, and leadership in a collaborative environment.

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS:
