Faculty Positions (open-rank) in Atmosphere Ocean Science and Mathematics - NYU Courant
New York University: NYU - NY: Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences: Mathematics - NYU Courant Institute
Location
New York, NY
Open Date

Oct 06, 2022

Description

The Center for Atmosphere Ocean Science (CAOS), a unit of the Department of Mathematics within the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University, seeks candidates for several open rank tenure/tenure-track faculty positions, anticipated to begin in September 2023. Appointments may be made at either a junior or senior level.

The CAOS group focuses on the intersection between applied mathematics and climate science to solve some of the most challenging problems in atmosphere ocean science. CAOS also hosts a distinct interdisciplinary Ph.D. program within the Courant Institute, a world-renowned center for applied mathematics, scientific computing, PDEs, analysis, probability, machine learning, and other fields.

All areas of atmosphere ocean science will be considered. Ideal candidates will combine fundamental research in the climate sciences with an abiding interest in the development of novel mathematical and computational methods and strategies. Examples of the latter include nonlinear multi-scale dynamics, probabilistic methods, high-performance simulation, and dynamical system modeling (both data-driven and model/theory-based).

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in atmosphere ocean science, mathematics, or a related field is required.
