Faculty Position in the Center for Genomic Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School

Overview: The Center for Genomic Medicine (CGM) of Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), in Partnership with the Department of Psychiatry at MGH and the Stanley Center for Psychiatric Research at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, invites applications for CGM full-time faculty with Assistant or Associate Professor of Psychiatry faculty appointments in Harvard Medical School (HMS), commensurate with accomplishments and experience.

The CGM is one of the largest and most vibrant hubs of genomic medicine research in the world. It sits at the interface between genome sciences and clinical applications in the largest hospitalbased research program in the US at MGH and a world-leading genomics institute at the Broad Institute. Our programs are led by 50 HMS faculty engaged in all facets of genomic medicine, including variant discovery across diverse global populations, studies of rare and common disease association, interrogation of disease mechanisms, and translation of genetics to diagnose and treat patients. The CGM encompasses faculty and Units spanning this ‘genomic medicine cycle’, including the Psychiatric and Neurodevelopmental Genetics Unit (PNGU), Analytical and Translational Genetics Unit (ATGU), Molecular Neurogenetics Unit (MNU), and Genomic Medicine Unit (GMU). The CGM is also a major docking point for leadership at the Broad Institute, including many Institute Members and Program leaders (http://cgm.massgeneral.org ).

Faculty Search: One strategic mission of the CGM is to leverage large-scale genomic and phenotypic data to elucidate the biological basis of disease, identify causal epidemiological risk factors, and develop methods and tools to bring genomic insights into a clinical setting. We are conducting a targeted search in Psychiatric Genetics to advance this strategic mission. The position requires expertise in one or more of the following areas: medical and population genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, neuropsychiatric disorders, and/or precision medicine. The successful candidate will have experience synthesizing natural language processing methods for phenotypic curation from electronic health records, performing international biobank-scale explorations of phenotypic and genomic data, and leveraging novel tools and advanced genetic methods to predict, prevent, diagnose, and treat human disease.

The CGM is a uniquely collaborative and cross-disciplinary environment, so applicants must be able to integrate across the scientific community at MGH, HMS, Harvard University, and the Broad Institute. Within the CGM, the selected faculty member will be appointed in PNGU with opportunity for affiliate positions in ATGU and the Stanley Center at the Broad Institute.
