Grand Canyon University’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences helps students become creative, ethical, and critical thinkers in the workplace.  We apply experiences with practical application to develop leaders in various fields of study.   We are currently seeking a 9-month, full-time faculty member to shape the bright futures of Grand Canyon University students.

As a full-time faculty member, you’ll provide program instruction incorporating innovative teaching methodologies, cutting-edge technologies and other industry trends reflecting advancements in your discipline.  If you are highly motivated and passionate about teaching exceptional quality instruction in modern facilities with smaller class sizes, we’d like to hear from you.

Please note, this is a 9-month full-time faculty starting in August 2024 and based at our main campus in Phoenix, AZ.

What you will do:

  • Teach courses within the Justice Studies major from a criminology perspective.

  • Assist and mentor students outside classroom hours.

  • Stay current on topics and practices related to the discipline.

  • Build partnerships with local law enforcement agencies leading to student pathways for police academy sponsorships.

  • Participate in curriculum design & development.

  • Active support of college/university mission and initiatives.

  • Actively participate on college and/or university committees.

  • Assist the Dean in developing internal and external communities that promote the major field of study, college, and University.

  • Provide leadership to adjunct faculty.

  • Active engagement in professional development activities.

  • Compliance with all college and University policies.

  • May work outside normal business hours in support of Mock Trial Club, Justice Studies Club and student field trips.

  • Willingness to assume other duties as assigned.

What you need:

  • Master's degree in Criminology, Justice Studies, or Legal Studies.

  • Experience working in law enforcement.

  • At least one year of instructional experience at the post-secondary level.

  • Computer literacy.

  • Familiarity with web enhanced instructional tools such as Angel/Blackboard/WebCT/LoudCloud.

  • Ability to articulate a clear understanding of values-based education from a Christian perspective.

  • Strong communication, time management and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated teamwork, self-motivation, integrity, and commitment to maintaining high professional standards.

  • Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.

Bonus:

  • Ph.D. in Criminology, Legal Studies, Justice Studies or Doctor of Jurisprudence.

  • Experience with federal and/or state courts.

  • Experience working with the reserves, police training, or academies.

  • One year of law enforcement instructional experience at the post-secondary level, that includes teaching courses, conducting and managing learning experiences, evaluating student achievement, providing input into curriculum development, policy and procedure formulation, and evaluation of program effectiveness.

  • Statistical analysis and research expertise.

  • Willingness to mentor students interested in a variety of justice related careers or advanced legal education.

  • Ability to build partnerships with local governmental agencies and courts for internship placement.
