Grand Canyon University is seeking applicants for a full-time faculty position in Honors and English. Courses taught include Intersections Between the Humanities and Sciences, Knowledge and Technology in the Humanities, and other undergraduate general education courses. As a full-time faculty member, you’ll provide program instruction incorporating innovative teaching methodologies, cutting-edge technologies, and other industry trends reflecting advancements in your discipline. Please note, this is a 9-month full-time faculty starting in August 2024 and based at our main campus in Phoenix, AZ.
What you will do:
Teach a variety of honors-level courses with a focus on the humanities, and other English courses, to a wide range of learners through a Christian lens.
Provide leadership to adjunct faculty. Provide direction to instructional assistants including norming and training in writing instruction and content.
Assist students outside classroom hours. May work outside normal business hours in support of student clubs and field trips.
Stay current on topics and practices related to the discipline.
Participate in curriculum design & development.
Active support of college/university mission and initiatives and participate on college and/or university committees.
Assist the Dean in developing internal and external communities that promote the major field of study, college, and University
Active engagement in professional development activities.
Compliance with all college and University policies.
Willingness to assume other duties as assigned.
What you need:
Master's degree in English, Literature, Rhetoric, Composition, and similar majors.
One year of instructional experience at the post-secondary level.
Ability to teach courses in a wide range of history focused topics with honors-level rigor.
Familiarity with web enhanced instructional tools such as Angel/Blackboard/WebCT.
Ability to articulate a clear understanding of values-based education from a Christian perspective
Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.
Bonus:
Ph.D. in English, Literature, Rhetoric, Composition, and similar majors.
Two years of instructional experience at the post-secondary level, that includes teaching courses, conducting and managing learning experiences, evaluating student achievement, providing input into curriculum development, policy and procedure formulation, and evaluation of program effectiveness.
Background in World Literature, British Literature, or American Literature.
Experience teaching courses in History with honors-level rigor.
Demonstrated excellence in teaching across multiple modalities.
