Job Description

The Department of Architecture at UMass Amherst invites applications for a full-time Lecturer starting September 1, 2024.

The position will include teaching a broad variety of courses and contributing to significant service in the department.

Teaching duties will include instructing undergraduate and graduate design studios, and could include lectures and seminars, thesis advising, honors colloquia, practicums, and independent studies. The department is particularly interested in candidates with an interest in building technologies, historic preservation, and professional practice. The standard department lecturer teaching load is 24 credits each academic year, to be adjusted for service responsibilities.

Initial teaching responsibilities will include a design studio plus additional course(s), which may include an additional studio, seminar, and/or colloquium (per semester).

Initial service responsibilities will include serving as Graduate Program Director (M.Arch. and M. Des.) and additional roles based on department need and candidate expertise. Additional service could include Design Building Gallery committee, marketing existing programs, career preparation and programming career-related events, recruitment and outreach, or other department committees.

Requirements

  • Master of Architecture (NAAB accredited), or equivalent.
  • Architecture license.
  • A strong record of academic, professional, and service accomplishments.
  • Demonstrated interest in and understanding of one or more of the service areas.
  • Record of excellence in teaching and a flexible and integrative approach toward architectural education.
  • Commitment to teaching diverse populations.

Additional Information

This position will start on September 1, 2024. The appointment period will be two years. The potential for future reappointments will be based on the duration schedule as permitted by the Collective Bargaining Agreement and will be contingent upon funding availability and satisfactory performance.

Annual salary range is commensurate with experience.
