Position Announcement

The Department of Art & Design at Utah Valley University invites applications for a tenure track position in Painting/Drawing to begin August 2024. We are seeking an inclusive, visionary, and collaborative artist/educator who will be committed to teaching and supervising undergraduate foundational courses in the Painting/Drawing area with particular emphasis in 2D Design and Drawing I.
 
Must be able to teach traditional observational drawing skills through non-objective and other contemporary approaches. Must be able to teach foundational design skills across the disciplines within the Art & Design department. Skills in teaching a variety of undergraduate levels of drawing/mixed media, oil, acrylic, printmaking media, figure drawing/painting, and/or watercolor are desirable.
 
The position will participate in mentoring students. The candidate is expected to demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence, as well as to teaching diverse learners and modeling inclusive practices.
 
The position, working with the area coordinator, serves in a responsible role in managing all sections of 2D Design and Drawing I (including online sections); trains and supervises adjunct instructors teaching 2D Design and Drawing I, and oversees curriculum development. If need arises, the candidate must be willing to serve on a rotation as the area coordinator for the Painting/Drawing area. Coordinator duties include overseeing curriculum, supervising student activities and instruction, scheduling of courses, hiring, and overseeing adjunct instructors and managing the area budget.
 
Tenure-track faculty will maintain an ongoing creative/scholarly/professional agenda and contribute to department, school, and university service.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Teaches and supervises undergraduate courses in 2D Design & Drawing 1. Can teach a section of upper division painting/drawing courses each semester. Plans, prepares, and implements an approved course of study. Prepares instructional materials (demos, visual presentations, online materials) as necessary. Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms/labs or online courses by using methods such as lectures, demonstrations, discussions, and visual aids. Mentor students outside of class time. Maintains and submits accurate and current reports and records regarding student grading, attendance, and performance.

  • Devotes time to department, school, and university service.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with an MFA degree in Painting/Drawing or a related field.
