Job Summary:

This full-time, non-tenure core faculty member serves as the Director of Learner Scholarship in the Department of Medical Education. The faculty position is designated as Assistant, Associate or Full Professor rank. The position participates in teaching residents and students and provides advising to students who are pursuing education in health professions. 

Major Responsibilities / Duties / Critical Tasks:

 

  • Establish, structure, oversee and administer the Scholarly Activity requirement for students and residents.
  • Establish processes to review student and resident progress and give feedback on projects.
  • Create and direct resources for research compliance for learner-related scholarly projects.
  • Develop a process for learner participation in research projects, which could include QI projects, Community-based projects, medical education projects, etc.
  • Develop milestones and processes that will facilitate the completion of learner research projects.
  • Develop and administer a database of mentors / projects for seamless student access.
  • Direct and coordinate funding opportunities for faculty and learners related to medical education research.
  • Identify and develop opportunities for research on community and population health.
  • Develop and oversee an evidence-based medicine (EBM) longitudinal thread within the core curriculum.
  • Interface with faculty and leadership to identify EBM content and sequencing.
  • Develop and refine EBM content and exercises to prepare students and residents to use EBM tools for team-based patient care.
  • Establish and run a personal research program.
  • Participate in scholarly activities, University and public service appropriate for the academic rank requested.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Required Education / Experience:

  • M.D. or Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree required.
  • Additional degrees related to education (M.Ed., M.Med., etc) preferred.
  • Experience in medical education at both UME and GME levels preferred.
