Work Schedule
Interns are expected to work 35 hours per week. Most work hours will occur Mon – Fri between 9am and 9pm. Occasional weekend hours will be required. The official work schedule will be negotiated with the immediate supervisor. The preferred term for the internship is July 15, 2024 – May 31, 2024. Start date is flexible but must occur on or before August 5, 2024.

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Campus Recreation provides a variety of programs and services to meet the recreation/fitness/wellness needs of the university community. Campus Recreation maintains several facilities around campus to help students stay active. In addition to the Rams Head Recreation Center and the Student Recreation Center, there is an indoor and outdoor pool, a number of outdoor courts for tennis, basketball, volleyball and paddle tennis, and lighted fields for sport club practices/matches and team intramural sports. Students have about 50 sport clubs and more than 40 intramural sports for men’s, women’s, and co-rec teams. Campus Recreation has a unique dual reporting structure in which it reports to both Student Affairs and the Department of Exercise and Sport Science via the Campus Recreation.
Position Summary
The Facility and Operations Intern prioritizes the student employment experience, working purposefully to ensure their ability to provide a great experience for our patrons. The Facility and Operations Intern leads the following components of the student employment experience: operations, recruitment and selection, on-boarding, leadership development, assessment, and culture enhancement.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate student employee hiring and training process
  • Schedule student employees for all hours of operation
  • Schedule and track shadowing sessions for new employees
  • Teach 2 CPR/AED and First Aid certification courses per semester
  • Create and implement in-service training opportunities for entry-level and leadership staff that align with Facilities and Operations, Campus Recreation, and Student Affairs outcomes
  • Attend Campus Recreation and Facilities and Operations professional staff meetings
  • Serve on Campus Recreation Student Development Committee
  • Develop professional skills through attendance at Student Affairs, NoCRSA, NIRSA Regional and National conferences and events
  • Create and implement a semester facility and risk management skills assessment
  • Create and implement an employee satisfaction survey
  • Lead semester evaluation process for student employees
  • Conduct exit interviews for employees vacating positions with favorable employment
  • Implement and track an employee incentive program
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
-Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
-Strong leadership skills
-Ability to work with diverse patrons and staff
-Flexible schedule that permits evening and weekend facility supervision
-Proven ability to prioritize Campus Recreation above other extracurricular responsibilities
