Grand Canyon University's Facilities Department is seeking a Special Project Team. Position requires a broad scope of competencies in the building trades and related fields.  This includes knowledge in: carpentry including, roofing, framing, cabinetry, custom installation, welding, metal repair and fabrication, concrete, masonry and stucco and tile, drywall install patch and paint with ability to operate forklift, boom, and scissor lift. The candidate must possess enough skills to perform general building construction, maintenance, and repair, have the competency to work independently and urgently. Special projects may fall under a broad scope of general contracting, construction, and fabrication duties but are not limited to and maybe required to learn on site appropriate means to complete job.

Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday 6am-3pm; some OT and weekends required.

Starting rate: $21 DOE

What you will do:

  • Provide a high level of customer service to students and/or faculty and staff.

  • Perform a variety of routine skilled maintenance, welding, carpentry-framing and other duties and ensure that facilities are available for use.

  • Consistently maintain a safe and clean environment both inside and outside facility while working.

  • Know-how and safely operate carpentry, metalworking and masonry, tile equipment, tools including power saws, table saws, grinders, sanders, augers, handheld drills, drivers, SDS hammers, and specialized tools and equipment necessary for completion of task.

  • Experience in inspecting, maintaining, repairing, designing, modifying and/or altering roofing materials

  • Drywall install, repair, patch and paint interior/exterior walls/structures as required.

  • Perform electronic recordkeeping related to preventative maintenance and repair. Track and close assigned work orders.

  • Welding, metal work, repair, and fabrication

  • Tile setting. cutting and repair

  • Can prioritize workload and adhere to plans.

  • Can self-operate with little oversight.

  • Must be motivated with sense of urgency.

  • Must be team oriented but can work autonomously to ensure completion of tasks.

  • Ability to operate forklift, boom, and scissor lift.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What you will need:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Trade school/training preferred.

  • Must have valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in general maintenance, building maintenance, renovation, or construction.

  • Ability to work from various sizes and types of ladders.

  • Experience and ability to operate various types of aerial work platforms.

  • Knowledge of carpentry, painting/plastering, drywall repair, maintenance

  • Must pass pre-employment background investigation.

  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays or extended hours as needed.
