Position Highlights

This position is responsible for maintaining a clean, presentable, and functional facility at the V-V Ranch through the repair, overhaul and maintenance of buildings, grounds, fences, water pipelines, vehicles, farm/ranch equipment, and other facilities. This person will work under the supervision of V Bar V Ranch Superintendent Keith Cannon.

This is a journey-level position. Working conditions include dirty environment, air contamination, hazardous materials, lifting or carrying heavy objects, and remote working conditions.

The V Bar V Ranch is a unit of the University of Arizona Agriculture Experiment Station. It encompasses an area of 71,000 acres in northern Arizona and is under the direction of Keith “Bopper” Cannon. Headquarters are located on Forest Road 618 in Rimrock, Arizona.

A valid driver’s license is required for this position.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Maintaining a clean, presentable, and functional facility at the V-V Ranch
  • Minor mechanical repairs on gas and diesel equipment. May include trucks, vehicles, ATVs, UTVs, tractors and other equipment.
  • Performs installation and maintenance of water pipelines servicing ranch/farm pastures and facilities
  • Performs maintenance and construction of livestock fences, i.e., electric, barbed wire, and metal
  • Performs general maintenance work including painting, plumbing, electrical and carpentry
  • Fabricates and/or reconstructs equipment and livestock facilities by using gas, arc, MIG or TIG welding methods
  • Performs Landscaping maintenance at facilities
  • Identifies needed maintenance issues and reports those to the Superintendent
  • Contributes to some maintenance at the nearby University of Arizona’s Cracchiolo DK Ranch
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of farm/ranch activities
  • Skill in landscape and grounds maintenance
  • Knowledge of general maintenance functions including electrical, plumbing, painting, fabrication, and carpentry
  • Skill in constructing and maintaining water pipelines, corral, and livestock pasture fencing
  • Skill in diagnosis and repair of automotive equipment
  • Knowledge of automotive and ATV/UTV repair
  • Skill in operating shop tools and machines
  • Skill in modifying, designing, and fabricating special purpose equipment
  • Ability to effectively communicate
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience may be required
  • Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 years of experience in repair, and maintenance of facilities and livestock fencing
