Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Drama is searching for a Facilities Assistant to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment.

CMU teaches all disciplines of performance and production in a professional conservatory-style training program. We seek to cultivate an inviting environment for students, artists, technicians, and audience members alike to explore and experience the world through diverse viewpoints. This position will work with the School of Drama Facilities Manager to facilitate operations and assist staff in the daily runnings of the Purnell Center for the Arts (93,000 sq ft), assist in the management of the recently acquired 30,000 sq ft Etna warehouse facility, and provide facilities and operational support to all School of Drama designated space and activities.


Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Stocking & organizing mostly heavy theatrical equipment
  • General theater and building maintenance
  • Work order generation and coordination
  • Picking up, delivering, and assembling office furniture
  • Managing School of Drama key distribution
  • Assisting with theatrical seating changeovers
  • Ordering supplies
  • Training and supervision of assigned support staff and students
  • Space requests and classroom reservations
  • And other duties as assigned

You should demonstrate:

  • Experience in operational or building facilities for theater or live entertainment preferred.
  • Ability to perform specific tasks in specific scenarios involving lifting, balance, and working at heights, or to find alternative means of completing any such tasks involved.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree with some knowledge and/or background in theater or live entertainment or an equivalent combination of education/experience is preferred.


Requirements:

  • Successful background check
  • Driver’s License required
