Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Facilities and Events Graduate Assistant reports to the Assistant Director of Projects in the School of Public Health and assists with the management of the school’s building, the use of its spaces, and the execution of major events. The GA serves as the first point of contact for incoming requests to the School of Public Health’s electronic ticketing system. The GA is responsible for accommodating building access requests and room reservations; completing or re-routing routine maintenance requests; assisting with events logistics; collaborating with departmental business and office managers on space use issues; and completing small physical tasks such as moving boxes or assembling furniture. The GA will frequently work independently without direct supervision but must also work collaboratively with the Assistant Director of Projects as well as constituents within the school and with other University of Maryland personnel.
The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, adaptable collaborator with dedication to customer service and excellent attention to detail during repetitive tasks. The ideal candidate will also be well-skilled in Microsoft Excel and the Google Suite; have experience working in databases and calendars; and be able to learn new information systems quickly.

  • Must be enrolled in a UMCP graduate program
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Customer service experience (virtual experience preferred)
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft Excel
  • Comfortable with learning new information systems
  • Able and willing to safely lift 75+ pounds and break a sweat (occasionally)
  • Able to operate small hand tools (occasionally)
  • Willingness to occasionally work on a flexible schedule to accommodate special events
