Academics Afield Facilitator Location: Georgia Wildlife Federation (GWF), Covington, GA Working Hours: Mon.-Fri., 8:00AM-5:00PM, but willing to work some evenings and weekends Contract Period: Full Time January 2022-December 2022 Salary Range: $30,000-$40,000 (pay commensurate with experience) Education: Bachelors in marketing, social sciences, human dimensions or natural resource related-field OVERVIEW: The Georgia Wildlife Federation, a 501c3 non-profit organization promoting the wise use of Georgia’s natural resources, is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Academics Afield Facilitator. This position will be funded through a Modern Multi-State Conservation Grant (MMSCG) titled “Expanding Academics Afield to Advance Equity in College R3 Programming,” from the Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Program of the US Fish and Wildlife Service. R3 is the Recruitment, Retention and Reactivation of hunters, anglers and shooting sport participants. Academics Afield (AA) is a program aimed at introducing students from non-traditional backgrounds to hunting and shooting sports. AA is active at eight Universities across the southeastern states and is being replicated at 12 additional universities in 2022. This next expansion focuses on program establishment at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs); thus, the Facilitator needs to have a strong understanding of the Black and African American culture and their relationships to the outdoors. Georgia R3 efforts and the creation of the AA Program was influenced by the National Hunting and Shooting Sports Action Plan: Strategies Recruiting, Retaining, and Reactivating Hunting and Shooting Sports Participants and the Georgia Hunting Action Plan. There is little existing literature describing the unique perspectives of underrepresented minorities and their relationship to hunting, so our expansion will begin with a “Listening Phase” collecting quantitative and qualitative data from HBCU students to ensure the program implementation is unique to their needs and barriers. GWF has partnered with researchers at North Carolina State University (NCSU) to fully understand the student’s backgrounds aiding in generating pathways for success at these institutions. The Facilitator will possess research and program management skills. The facilitator will work directly with partners to ensure reliable data collection, to guide them on local implementation and to effectively report program findings and impacts. The Facilitator will be the direct manager of the expansion to Georgia’s Fort Valley State University (FVSU) and Albany State University (ASU). The Academics Afield Facilitator will work with the State R3 Coordinator to fulfill the position’s objectives. The position will be located at the GWF’s Alcovy Conservation Center in Covington, GA. Coordinate the creation of data-driven recommendations for tangible strategies to better engage diverse young adult hunters- specifically how to engage individuals from underrepresented audiences.
