The Department of Surgery is looking to fill the position of Extra Help Medical Education Specialist within our General Surgery Residency program. 



Employees at this level assist in the coordination of a medical education program providing support to the program director and Medical Education Program Coordinator. They perform duties following established guidelines for the program(s). 

A (n) Medical Education Program Specialist typically -
 

  • Serves as a contact concerning medical education program requirements and guidelines, financial assistance, work opportunities, and vacation scheduling. 
  • Obtains and disseminates resident documents to contacts at other institutions, prior to resident rotation – to ensure a smooth transition. 
  • Organizes medical education activities and prepares, develops, and/or maintains schedules. 
  • Maintains and manages data into and out of New Innovations including, but not limited to: entering yearly rotation schedules, setting up resident block schedules and sending resident/faculty/rotation evaluations and delinquent reminders.  
  • Updates resident and faculty personnel information as needed. Provides any pertinent information of residents for CCC and semi-annual reviews.  
  • Tracks and enforces duty hour documentation from residents/fellows 
  • Establishes formal record for varied categories of medical education program participants, with responsibility for accuracy and completeness of record in accordance with accreditation standards. 
  • Schedules educational blocks based on trainee level 
  • Coordinates and assists in conducting portions of an orientation for medical education program participants.
  • Assist the Program Director and Associate Program Director with the Program's site 
  • Manage the Program's call volumes. 
  • Performs related duties as assigned. 


  • CREDENTIALS TO BE VERIFIED BY PLACEMENT OFFICER
     

    • High School Graduation or equivalent
    • Any one or any combination of the following, totaling four years (48 months), from the categories below:
      • progressively more responsible clerical or secretarial experience, including background in electronic word processing and database management systems
      • college course work leading to a major in medical education, education, communications, public relations or similar area of study
        • 30 semester hours equals 12 months
        • 60 semester hours equals 24 months
        • 90 semester hours equals 36 months
        • 120 semester hours or a Bachelor's Degree equals 48 months

    Please Note: Completion of the Training Administrators of Graduate Medical Education Programs Certification (TAGME) from the National Board for Certification of Training Administrators qualifies applicants for each level of this series.
