Summary of Job Duties:

Group Leaders will help create a fun, engaging, but structured and safe environment during the Art in Action Summer Camp! The Group Leader will lead a group of 15-20 participating elementary or middle school students throughout the camp’s daily proceedings including teambuilding time, meal-time, recess, transition, and field trips. The Group Leader will support the art instructors (Theater/Acting, Music, Dance, etc.) during the art sessions and be responsible for facilitating group self-calming/team time activities to encourage emotional well-being & life skills (activities will be learned in training).
Group Leaders must be available Monday-Thursday between 8:00am-5:00pm. All Group Leaders will work 8 hours with a 1 hour unpaid lunch.
In addition, the Group Leader must be available for the entirety of the camp as well as to attend a mandatory 20-24 hour pre-Camp training in the week of June 3 - June 6, 2024. Group Leaders are required to support camp wrap-up as well on July 22 - 23, 2024.
The Group Leader will report to the CI Program Coordinator. This is a temporary grant-funded hourly position effective June 3 - July 23, 2024, and will not be eligible for benefits. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.

Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • High School diploma plus previous work or volunteer experience working with children or youth in a group setting. 

Job Duties and/or Responsibilities:

  • Lead up to 15-20 elementary and/or middle school students per assigned group through daily camp proceedings; 
  • Facilitate team building and self-calming activities;
  • Manage meal-time, recess, transition, as well as field trips; 
  • Support instructors during skill sessions in Theater, Music, Scripts, Poetry and etc; 
  • Will be trained in camp processes, classroom management, CI behavior protocol, emotional well-being, and student engagement; 
  • Assist with program administrative duties such as collecting attendance and check-in/out process; 
  • Support special program activities such as parent events and end-of-camp showcases, among others;
  • Act as a role model and mentor to children;
  • Supervise children in large and small groups and individually;
  • Be actively engaged with students at all times;
  • Other related duties as assigned. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • At least 18 years of age and able to have own reliable transportation to program site; 
  • Energetic and passionate about being a role model for all children and youth; 
  • Ability to facilitate and supervise middle and elementary students; 
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills; 
  • Be accountable for the safety of the youth and children under supervision;
  • Spanish is helpful; 
  • Must be available for the scheduled shift; 
  • Must be able to pass background checks.
