Extension Public Health AmeriCorps (EPHAC) members will be a part of a unique one-of-a-kind AmeriCorps program. EPHAC members will serve in regional hubs across the state, located in OSU Extension offices. EPHAC members will work to engage stakeholders, including youth, to identify public health needs of the community, plan and implement projects to address the public health issues, and share with their community.


Goals of EPHAC projects include:


  • Address public health needs of local communities by providing support in state and local public health settings.

  • Advance more equitable health outcomes for underserved communities.

  • Expose youth to public health and other health-related career opportunities.


We are currently filling the following slots:


  • Reduced Full-Time Slots (1200 Hours/8-12-month commitment)

  • Half-Time Slots (900 Hours/8-12-month commitment)

  • Reduced Half-Time Slots (675 Hours/8-12-month commitment)

  • A cover letter detailing why you want to serve with the Extension Public Health AmeriCorps. Please describe any previous volunteer experience. This should include where you served, why you served, and how it made you feel. If you have no formal volunteer experience, include how you have been involved in your community and what you hope to gain by serving with the Extension Public Health AmeriCorps.


Job-Related Responsibilities:


  • 60% EPHAC related service activities, including direct and indirect service, assessing community needs, attending community meetings, partnership building, planning and implementing service projects, organizing events, and creating materials.

  • 20% Combined training (EPHAC, AmeriCorps, CDC)

  • 10% Present EPHAC to campus and local community organizations, student groups.


Required Qualifications


  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED

  • 17 Years of age or older


  • U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident alien

  • Results of mandatory background check must enable you to effectively serve in duties of the position

  • Have a valid drivers license, current auto insurance, a reliable vehicle, and able to make occasional trips to Columbus, OH for training & meetings.

  • Attendance at mandatory EPHAC onboarding (in-person and virtually)

  • Access to the internet and technology to complete timesheets and attend virtual meetings.


  • Ability to complete entire hours of commitment in contract period time.

  • Not be paid through Ohio State University on any other contracts or positions.
