The Division of Extension and Engagement and the College of Agricultural Sciences are seeking an Extension General Agriculture Educator. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position. This Agriculture Educator is affiliated with the Extension Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources Program. Decisions regarding this appointment are at the discretion of the Regional Director and Program Leader.
This Ag Extension General Agriculture Educator position is located in Condon, Oregon, and will serve Gilliam County in addition to providing support services to Morrow and Wheeler Counties.

This Ag Extension General Agriculture Educator will develop and conduct educational programs and contribute to activities in topics relevant to crops, livestock, and general agriculture as well as economic development and community development in Gilliam County. This position will serve as an educational liaison to local agricultural organizations and state and federal agencies as well as work collaboratively with agricultural producers in the region, commodity organizations, and subject-matter specialists to provide Extension programs in the assigned counties.

This professional faculty member contributes to the missions of Oregon State University Extension Service (OSUES) and the College of Agricultural Sciences (CAS). Positions with primary responsibility for Extension and Engagement are likewise committed to learner success through programming appropriate for diverse audiences.

Minimum Qualifications (Staff) / Guidelines (Faculty):

Typically requires Bachelor's Degree in field relevant to program focus. May require certification or licensure as appropriate to the position.

Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Education, Natural Resources, Soils, Crops, Animal Science, or a field closely related to the duties of the position. The degree must be completed by start date.
  • Demonstrable commitment to collaborative and respectful learning and working environments that are safe, inclusive, and welcoming.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal communication skills.
  • General knowledge and ability to use computers, including proficiency with information technology, professional office software, and collaborative work platforms.
  • Must have or be able to obtain an Oregon Department of Agriculture Pesticide Consultant License within six months of employment and maintain it throughout employment.
  • Ability to incorporate use of web, social media, newsletter, and/or other digital technologies in program development and/or outreach activities to achieve goals.
  • Ability to gather, interpret, and communicate clearly and effectively broad-based scientific information with community and industry stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead groups, create partnerships, and to plan, organize, evaluate, manage, and delegate details associated with program management and event coordination.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.

Type:

  • Extension programming activities and events will take place outdoors, on farms, research stations, and other settings.
  • The position requires working some evenings and weekends.
  • The position requires travel within the state of Oregon and may require travel out of state.
