Summary of Duties:
This position provides oversight and shared leadership for the 4-H Youth Development Program of Yakima County. Yakima County 4-H currently serves 300 youth members enrolled in 4-H community clubs, supports 70 certified volunteers, and facilitates youth outreach programming reaching 5,000+ annually. Major duties include volunteer coordination and management, and youth programming development and facilitation under the direction of the 4-H Regional Specialist. Responsibilities include community outreach, particularly to underserved audiences, reaching youth outside of the 4-H club model, and increasing equity, inclusion, and access to local 4-H programs. This position requires a commitment to positive youth development, youth empowerment, and collaborative work, along with creativity, compassion, and strong communication skills.
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant extension program discipline and two (2) years of related program experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; demonstrated work experience using these programs.
- Competency in using electronic communication methods and equipment for Extension education and daily work activities.
- While using a private vehicle for official business, the successful candidate must have current automobile liability insurance (meeting the requirements described in RCW 46.30.020 and RCW 46.29.090 ) and possess a valid driver's license.
- Must successfully pass the WSU 4-H Youth Development/Child Protection screening process.
- Ability to work year round in a variety of outdoor weather conditions.
- Ability to work flexible work hours that include frequent evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in volunteer management (i.e. recruitment, placement, education and recognition) and volunteerism.
- Knowledge of, and/or experience with, 4-H youth development programs.
- Experience and ability to work as a team member with staff and volunteers.
- Language and cultural competency in Spanish.
- Strong demonstrated written skills requiring limited editing and supervision in preparing reports, evaluations, press releases, synthesis of a broad range of materials, and effective written conveyance of program information to the public and program participants.
- Experience developing curriculum.
- Strong demonstrated verbal communication and listening skills: public speaking, effective conveyance of program information to the public, program participants, and decision-makers.
- Experience in mediation services.
- Experience working/collaborating with multiple public agencies, NGOs, and individuals in partnerships.
- Experience in leadership, and the ability to work and think independently.
- Knowledge of, and/or experience with, program assessment and evaluation.
- Familiarity with social media.

Monthly Salary:
$3,900.88 - $5,613.47
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 , the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range.

This is a temporary one year project position. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment. Funding has been renewed successfully for several years and we expect funding to continue to be renewed.
