Position Function This individual will be a Dairy Business Management Specialist with the PRO-DAIRY program in the Department of Animal Science. As a member of the Farm Management Team within PRO-DAIRY, this individual will assist in coordinating activities associated with the dairy discussion group effort within PRO-DAIRY. Utilize experiences and appropriate data tools, such as the Dairy Profit Monitor and Dairy Farm Business Summary program, in working directly with dairy farms to support business management education programs and the discussion group program. Build relationships with current and new farms involved in programs, and facilitate discussion group meetings, with a focus of on-farm activities in the eastern half of New York State. Develop and conduct activity analysis projects in support of applied research and extension programs focused on costs and performance of dairy farms. Provide leadership in development of distance education programs with a focus on business and financial management. Provide input and support to the overall PRO-DAIRY program and the farm management effort within PRO-DAIRY, consisting of but not limited to involvement in program development, educational material preparation, speaking at meetings and conferences, working with local and regional extension educators to meet the educational needs of dairy producers across the state. This position is full-time and will be based in Ithaca, New York, with options for being housed elsewhere if appropriate. Extensive travel (approximately 35% of time) and over-nights will be required throughout New York State. This is a three-year appointment. Anticipated Division of Time Program Leadership : 40% In collaboration with PRO-DAIRY Farm Management Leader and other staff, provide strategic leadership and program design for initiatives that span the farm management component of the PRO-DAIRY Program. Requirements
Preferred Qualifications Master of Science, Master of Business Administration, or Ph.D. preferred. Strong interest in participating in industry-based research in cooperation with commercial dairy farms.
