Job Summary: |
Summary and Scope of Responsibility: This position will work closely with the
Associate Extension Administrator, the Horticulture Extension Cluster other
Cooperative Extension program staff, and the farm manager team to provide
day-to-day outreach education and supervision of community-based crop producers
and other activities related to demonstration sites in targeted communities. The Langston University School of Agriculture and Applied Sciences was founded as, and remains a land-grant institution, committed to improving the quality of life for Oklahomans. Our research, teaching, and extension programs are part of a national system that maintains a statewide presence and links local, state, and global issues. Agriculture, food, and environmental systems are key components of Oklahomas economic engine, and LU is playing a prominent role in those areas with its programs. Duties, Responsibilities and Requirements: Supervise community lending libraries Demonstration sites Community Gardening sites Other food related initiates Support Langston University Cooperative Extension program staff in development and maintenance of demonstration sites Maintain contact with vegetable producers in selected Oklahoma counties Work collaboratively with other members of Langston University Cooperative Extension program to expand program activities in the School, i.e. academics, research and outreach Participates in professional growth and development activities including staff meetings, and in service and staff development activities as required or assigned Performs miscellaneous job-related duties and responsibilities as required

Position Qualifications: |
Experience Required: Candidates with at least a B.S Agriculture (especially plant science/horticulture) or related disciplines The person must have the ability to work cooperatively with others in an interdisciplinary extension program that supports community development via the crop production at local and state levels The person must have demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to interact with small and large producers, agribusiness personnel, and campus faculty Candidates must be supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system
Physical Requirements: Ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods Occasional ability to lift, carry, and put away parcels weighing up to 25 pounds Normal physical mobility, which includes movement from place to place on the job walking distance and speed into account Normal physical agility, which includes ability to maneuver body while in place Normal physical strength to handle routine office materials and tools Normal dexterity of hands and fingers Normal coordination, including eye-hand, hand-foot Normal endurance |
