SALARY AND BENEFITS

Salary is commensurate with training and experience. This is a grant-funded position. Continued employment is contingent upon performance and funding. Benefits include group hospitalization and life insurance, State Employees Retirement; Workers’ Compensation; sick and annual leave; numerous University of Tennessee and state benefits programs, including liberal time off for holidays and longevity pay after three years of service; reimbursement for official travel.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Extension Specialist is responsible to the Assistant Dean for the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) and works under programmatic direction of the project Principal Investigator/ Associate Professor for Community Health and Vaccine Education Project Manager. This position will be responsible for providing support to the grant-funded TN Vaccine Education program in Western Tennessee. Included activities involving delivery of current, research-based subject matter information and training to Extension agents, and community partners; developing educational materials to support programs; planning and conducting regional and statewide events and supporting curriculum development; and planning, conducting, implementing and evaluating educational program components.

 



Qualifications

 

Duties

  • Coordinate team meetings, maintain communication with team members, track and monitor progress.
  • Contribute to curriculum development activities
  • Manage and monitor digital assets for assigned projects
  • Coordinate program development activities with other entities (internal and external)
  • Plan and organize social media education and promotional efforts for assigned projects; develop or coordinate development with appropriate subject-matter specialists
  • Maintain communication with Extension agents and Vaccine Education Program Assistants about program needs and delivery status
  • Assist Agents, Program Assistants and Community Nurse Navigators as needed.
  • Solve problems and proactively address anticipated issues and needs
  • Coordinate background checks of Extension volunteers as needed
  • Communicate county-level evaluation data to agents & program manager
  • Organize and assist with conducting in-service training for agents, volunteers, community partners, and Extension clientele
  • Plan and conduct educational activities for supported projects, including appropriate teaching methods to include in-person and virtual delivery.

REQUIREMENTS

Education: 

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field (public health, health education/promotion, public health, family & consumer sciences, etc.) or substantial work experience demonstrating proficiency in understanding and application of public health principles or adult education strategies in alignment with the appointment.

Experience: 

  • Minimum 2 years related work experience.
  • Experience working with diverse, multicultural groups, including racial and/or ethnic minorities and other traditionally underrepresented groups.

Preferred experience:

  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience in grant coordination/management and reporting
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary and diverse teams
  • Experience working in communities

Job Skills:

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and efficiently coordinate activities of multiple units/teams

  •  Demonstrated ability to develop, edit, and deploy digital communications, including video and asynchronous education
  •  Demonstrated ability to work with volunteers and do Minors on Campus checks.
  • Demonstrated skills to develop educational materials, conduct innovative programs, teach effectively through in-person and digital means.
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office, social media, and other technologies required to fulfill role
