JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Associate Director for Experiential Global Learning (EGL), the EGL advisor and Community Liaison (Student Services Coordinator) works closely with students in all phases of the EGL process, including outreach, advising, monitoring applications, pre-departure, on-site support, and re-entry. In addition, serves as a community liaison between EGL and the UConn community by creating strategic initiatives and outreach to promote EGL programs across the University.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in the effective administration of EGL programming and delivers high-quality advising that meets the expectations and goals set by the Associate Director.
  • Advises students on EGL program options, opportunities, and requirements. Conducts individual advising for students on personal and academic goals, program selection, health and safety concerns, intercultural competency, etc.
  • Assists students with the EGL application process, including advising on financial aid and scholarships, course equivalency process, registration, transcripts, credits, and other administrative tasks.
  • Partner with the UConn community to expand access to EGL programs for underrepresented students by creating strategic initiatives, such as information sessions, tailored programs, and student advising.
  • Liaise with University Cultural Centers to incorporate an EGL presence into the Center's initiatives throughout the year.
  • Coordinates and leads National Scholarship outreach, specifically for the Gilman Scholarship, the application process through information sessions and application support in collaboration with the Office of National Scholarships and Fellowships.
  • Maintains expert understanding of University policies pertaining to EGL. Responds to inquiries from students, parents, faculty, and others regarding program policies, procedures, and requirements, making referrals as appropriate.
  • Reviews applications and makes acceptance decisions using the online nomination/application/approval processes for programs, monitoring compliance with requirements and policies, and maintaining accurate and up-to-date student records using the Terra Dotta software system.
  • Works collaboratively with faculty for the recruitment, enrollment, and preparation of students for UConn administered programming.
  • Assists in maintaining the content of guidebooks, presentations, websites, and other informational literature for students, faculty, parents, and other offices, following best practices.
  • Promotes EGL programs by holding information sessions, participating in EGL fairs, campus events, etc.
  • Maintains effective relationships with faculty, academic departments, administrative offices, EGL partners, and program providers. Acts as liaison between the overseas partner/program provider and students.
  • Stays abreast of all travel alerts, travel warnings, and events abroad that might affect students. Stays in contact with students while they are on an EGL program, providing assistance as necessary and appropriate.
  • Occasional nights and weekends are required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in academic discipline appropriate to international education or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three to four years of professional experience related to international education, student services, or related field - with one year of student advising experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and work independently to analyze available information, draw conclusions and understandings, and present such conclusions effectively to senior management.
  • Excellent computer skills, including a mastery of MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through both oral and written means.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in an academic discipline appropriate to international education.
  • Ability to perform and coordinate administrative functions.
  • Demonstrated experience providing educational counsel and support for students.
  • Knowledge of Peoplesoft.
  • Experience using Terra Dotta Study Abroad software.
  • Experience working collaboratively with individuals of diverse cultural, social, and educational backgrounds with respect to diversity.

This is a full-time, permanent position.
