Full Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY
Careers in Science (CiS) is a multi-year, year-round, paid internship and workforce development program for San Francisco high school aged students (ages 14-18) who come from communities underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. Interns learn, teach, and do science at the Academy and through remote engagement. In the process, they develop life and job skills, receive college and career mentorship, and learn science and sustainability concepts in an authentic, paid work environment.
Reporting to the Manager of Youth Engagement, the USF Intern will provide administrative and operational support for the Careers in Science program, and will interact with Academy interns during program activities. The program will meet in-person Tuesday through Saturday. When the program meets remotely, the USF Intern will coordinate the use of online learning platforms, including Google Meet, Google Classroom, and Zoom. The USF Intern will help activity facilitators track attendance, record meeting notes, and encourage interns to participate in small-group discussions. This is an opportunity for an emerging educator to learn about informal STEM education, workforce development, and youth engagement in a fun and dynamic setting.
The California Academy of Sciences welcomes people of all backgrounds, identities, and beliefs to join us in achieving our mission to explore, explain, and sustain life. We place diversity, equity, and inclusion at the heart of our recruiting efforts and strive to build a culture centered on mutual respect, equal treatment, and the opportunity to succeed.
