Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Exhibition/Installation Coordinator for The Zimmerli Art Museum.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Supports the critical mission of the museum by managing and ensuring the timely installation of exhibitions, maintaining gallery spaces, and supporting the Operations Manager in working with university facilities in the care of the building, storage, and climate-control systems. 
  • Works closely with the museum curators, registrars, and other museum staff responsible for collections and installations to implement the curator’s design for special exhibitions and permanent collection galleries. 
  • responsible for working with the assistant operations manager, contract employees.
  • Assists with packing and moving of collections in and out of storage and galleries.

Position Salary $41,227 - $51,262

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in museum design and installation. 

Certifications/Licenses
  • Requires a valid driver’s License and ability to drive a truck
Preferred Qualifications
  • Design ability in 2 and 3 dimensions
  • Knowledge of construction methods  
  • Experience with and knowledge of best practices for art handling and transport
  • Demonstrated skills in the use of power tools and shop machinery

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills
  • Must have skills with budgets, 2D and 3D CAD applications, verbal and written English, and be knowledgeable in art handling and in the use of power and hand-tools. 
  • The position-holder must be conversant with  practices in exhibition presentation and human-factors design for public spaces. 
  • Ability to create and follow schedules
  • Ability to work with a team
Equipment Utilized
  • Microsoft Office software, Excel, CAD programs, Sketch Up, shop equipment & power tools equipment. 
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
