NEPHROLOGY AND HYPERTENSION (IN-NEPH-IUINA)

The Division of Nephrology and Hypertension is committed to the research, treatment and prevention of kidney diseases, including acute and chronic renal failure, complications of chronic dialysis treatment, hypertension, and kidney stones and cystic disease.

The overarching mission of the laboratory of Dr. Kenneth Lim in the Division of Nephrology at IUSM focuses on the development and delivery of definitive clinical trials in patients with kidney failure and cardiovascular complications, and the development of advanced therapeutics. The successful applicant will provide a mission critical role in our clinical research program where they will be involved in running our cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) laboratory, executing physical function testing and supporting all aspects patient recruitment, clinical coordination and regulatory needs for our studies. 

The position provides a unique opportunity work with collaborating faculty and units across the IU Indianapolis campus and beyond, including the Musculoskeletal Function, Imaging and Tissue Resource Core (FIT Core), Indiana Center for Musculoskeletal Health (ICMH), and with stakeholders from Cardiology, Pulmonology, Physical Therapy and Kinesiology.

  • Coordinates and performs fitness/ medical testing to determine physical condition of potential new employees and to identify health issues that might impact performance
  • Work with patients or clients to develop customized fitness, nutrition, and exercise programs
  • Regularly evaluates overall health and cardiovascular functioning of patient
  • Assists physicians with patient education by personally reviewing results with clients and making exercise and nutrition recommendations with emphasis on disease prevention and healthy habits
  • Schedules and organizes various company and community screenings including spirometry, prostate and fitness screenings
  • Assists with maintaining medical records of clinic patients, arranges ancillary testing, obtains test results, and ensures diagnostic testing is available to the appropriate physician and cardiac rehab

EDUCATION / WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • Master's degree in Kinesiology, exercise science, or related field and 1 year of experience in exercise testing; OR
  • Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, exercise science, and 3 years of experience in exercise testing.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Preferred

  • ACSM American College of Sports Medicine upon date of hire. 
  • ASEP American Society of Exercise Physiologists upon date of hire.

This role requires sedentary work as well as extended durations of moving about the workplace. It requires the ability to move objects and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and the ability to discern between various objects and devices and to position patients.
