Job Summary
This Exercise Physiologist will be responsible for:
  • Checking supplies and calibrating metabolic cart each morning. Performing calibrations to standard and is able to troubleshoot problems when calibration quality is poor. Recording data in permanent folder. Performing routine maintenance on equipment and knowing procedures for getting technical support from manufacturers. Maintaining ample inventory and cleaning exam rooms
  • Obtaining requisition and assuring accurate data prior to test. Interviewing patient and/or family to obtain other pertinent details regarding diagnosis, symptoms, and medications. Assessing the need for a physician in attendance and arranging accordingly
  • Independently performing standard exercise stress test as well as nuclear medicine stress test and accurately recording all data including patient appearance, blood pressure, heart rate, ECG changes, transcutaneous oximetry as requested, lung sounds if pertinent
  • Independently performing metabolic exercise stress tests and accurately running treadmill with ECG cart and metabolic cart. Obtaining maximum Vo2 uptake, Co2 output, heart rate, blood pressure, ECG, transcutaneous oximetry as requested, patient appearance, and lung sounds if pertinent
  • Writing full report including all above data, evaluating patient compliance and tolerance to exercise, assessing symptom correlation if any, and interpreting ECG findings. Entering data into computer and forwarding hard copy to physicians/director for review. Sending out final reports in a timely manner and to all appropriate recipients
  • Running all exercise equipment: Treadmill, leg ergometer, Max 1 ECG cart, and metabolic cart. Is familiar with common protocols and assesses when change in protocol is warranted
  • Acting as clinical supervisor and coordinating student internships. Completing the student performance evaluation forms. Using non-scheduled time appropriately by performing duties in the ECG lab. Performing ECGs, Oxygen Saturation Tests, and halter cardiac rhythm monitor placements. Reading and analyzing test results

To qualify, you must have:
  • Current Basic Life Support certification (BLS) in accordance with American Heart Association standards is required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Physiology required, Master's Degree preferred
  • ACSM certification preferred, but not required
  • Minimum of one year of clinical experience is required
  • Analytical skills to gather and interpret data
  • The ability to exchange information on factual matters, schedule appointments, explain hospital policies, and/or relay messages to appropriate personnel. This type of interaction requires courtesy and tact when dealing with patients, visitors, and/or hospital employees

*This position will be asked to work at both the main hospital in Boston and a new satellite location opening in Weymouth.*
