Description

The University of Chicago - one of the world's preeminent institutions of discovery, service and learning - seeks a visionary, collaborative and strategic leader to serve as Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs and Dean of the Biological Sciences Division and Pritzker School of Medicine (EVP/Dean). This is an extraordinary opportunity to join the University's executive team and lead the medical and biological research, education, care delivery, and community engagement enterprise for the University and its health system, UChicago Medicine. Given the scope of this role, UChicago seeks an inspirational leader with strong organizational and team building skills, and the ability to delegate and empower their team.

The EVP/Dean will lead a transformational agenda aimed at driving growth for UChicago Medicine and integrating the academic and clinical programs to leverage the strengths of each and enhance the impact of UChicago Medicine. The agenda includes expanding the regional health system and creating Chicago's first freestanding comprehensive cancer center; enhancing UChicago Medicine’s position as a local, regional, national, and global destination for patients seeking the highest level of care that is informed by the latest discoveries; propelling new discovery across the full spectrum of research and advancing the academic stature of the biological and clinical faculty; furthering the University's impact in biotechnology and entrepreneurship; and growing and fostering new collaborations across the University's eminent academic and research programs.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be a nationally and internationally recognized medical scholar with a successful track record of leadership in a comparably prominent and complex academic medical center setting. The EVP/Dean will be passionate about promoting the community's health as well as diversity, equity and inclusion, and appreciate and advance the unique culture of the University of Chicago, including its strong emphasis on scholarly-driven innovation.  An M.D., M.D./Ph.D., Ph.D. or comparable degree is required.

The Biological Sciences Division (BSD), Pritzker School of Medicine and UChicago Medicine are distinguished by:

  • a unified campus with low barriers to further collaborations across campus and with the University's research and community partners;
  • an academic culture of excellence with a commitment to scholarship, discovery, education and entrepreneurship by a world-class faculty spanning medical, undergraduate and graduate biomedical sciences.
  • a clinical enterprise that supports and complements academic programs led by UChicago Medicine clinicians who have local, regional, national and international reputations, enabling strong operating and financial performance; and
  • a clinically integrated network of faculty and community physicians operating successful ambulatory locations and partnerships outside Hyde Park that provides a framework for future growth.
  • a strong commitment to caring for a diverse community and providing clinical programs of excellence to the underserved.
