Under the supervision of the Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Business Programs, the Executive Director, UG Business Programs, will participate in and be responsible for the administration of academic advising and other academic services for undergraduate business students and students seeking to transfer into the Miami Herbert Business School (MHBS). This role will encompass data analytics and reporting, strategy and innovation, talent management, and compliance with university and federal guidelines.

Core Job Functions     

                                                                                   

  • Supports the Assistant Dean in the design, implementation, documentation, measurement, and enhancement of academic advising and related processes.

  • Works closely with MHBS Vice Dean of Programs, Associate Dean of Programs, Department Chairs, Faculty and Senior Program staff to help create and implement strategies for student success.

  • Recruits, mentors, supervises, and evaluates subordinate staff members to ensure professional growth

  • and performance.

  • Collects and organizes facts and data (including external benchmarking), performs analyses, and prepares reports.

  • Serves as liaison, when needed, to other University of Miami College and Schools, external agencies and organizations to further program goals and objectives.

  • Interprets and shares the impact of federal and state legislation on institutional programs; ensures internal control oversight and compliance with laws and regulations, safeguarding of assets, compliance with University policies and procedures, reliability of internal and external reporting, and efficiency and effectiveness of operations.

  • Manages a caseload of undergraduate students, ensuring personalized attention and support based on the needs of the advising team.

Qualifications  

                                                                                                      

Education:

  • Master's degree in higher education administration or a related field is preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in higher education administration and academic advising in higher education is preferred.

  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, certifications and/or work experience will be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Proven leadership and talent management acumen to coach and guide a diverse team of professionals, and strong presentation, administrative and organizational skills.

  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.

  • Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.

  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.

  • Knowledge of business and management principles

  • Strong adaptability to changing technical environment and strong computer skills including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite, PeopleSoft (Canelink), Navigate, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.

Department Specific Functions

Leadership, Talent Management and Engagement

  • Lead and oversee the undergraduate business programs advising department, providing visionary leadership, setting goals and objectives for the department in alignment with the university's mission and values and ensuring efficient operation and delivery of high-quality services.

  • Manage a team of undergraduate advisors, providing supervision, guidance, and professional development opportunities, including developing and implementing training programs for advisors, ensuring they possess the necessary knowledge and skills to support diverse student populations.

  • Foster a culture of excellence, professionalism, collaboration, inclusiveness, and student-centeredness within the undergraduate advising department.

  • Serve as a resource and advisor to students, addressing complex advising issues and ensuring timely resolution.

  • Represent the undergraduate advising department at university meetings, committees, and events.

  • Cultivate relationships with external stakeholders, such as alumni and community organizations, to enhance student opportunities.

  • Maintain active and current communication through administrative channels to and from advising staff; plan, coordinate, and conduct appropriate staff meetings for advising and related staff.

  • Lead and administer undergraduate business student services related to international business education abroad, both UM exchange and non-UM programs; coordinate advising staff to communicate with Study Abroad office to ensure maximum student success in international placements and efficient, accurate transcript evaluation.

Strategic Innovation

  • Develop and implement strategic plans to enhance the overall undergraduate advising experience.

  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures related to undergraduate advising, ensuring compliance with university regulations and standards.

  • Collaborate with school scheduler to plan optimal class schedule based on current student needs and expected matriculations and enrollments.

  • Coordinate with school scheduler to maximize efficiency in registration and enrollments.

  • Stay current on trends and best practices in undergraduate advising, incorporating relevant strategies into the department's operations.

Data Analytics and Reporting

  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of advising programs and services, making data-driven decisions for continuous improvement; implement innovative advising practices and technologies to ensure student success.

  • Collaborate with faculty and staff across academic departments to support effective advising and course selection for undergraduate students, and to align advising practices with curriculum changes and program requirements.

  • Develop and maintain a network of partnerships with other universities and professional organizations to exchange best practices and enhance advising services.

  • Participate in accreditation processes and contribute to reports related to undergraduate advising.

  • Produce reports related to student progress; manage and implement academic standards, including at risk, probation, and dismissal notices.

  • Supervise timely and accurate NCAA certification of student-athletes.

  • Collaborate with all academic advisors and Vice Dean, as well as department chairs, regular faculty, instructors, and other agents of the institution to aid in the resolution of both academic and non-academic issues pertaining to student retention and progress toward graduation.

  • Promote student success by devising and implementing advising strategies to maximize student retention and graduation; coordinate with University retention and graduation efforts, including GP Aid and other student success initiatives.
