Position Summary
Administers and directs the activities within the Our West Bayfront (OWB) neighborhoods. The Executive Director oversees program management, development and expansion as well as programmatic activities. The Executive Director also serves as the primary liaison with all external relationships including residents, businesses, faith-based and non-profit organizations, and government entities. Must be able to support and promote the University’s Mission, the Our West Bayfront Mission, and the Our West Bayfront Community Plan. Through the partnership of OWB and Gannon University the OWB Executive Director reports to the Provost and Vice President for Student Experience and is accountable to the OWB Board of Directors.
Essential Functions
  • Leads planning and implementation of the OWB Community Plan. 
  • Develops and institutes programs that meet the needs of the area served by OWB consistent with the mission of Gannon University, the OWB Mission, and the OWB Community Plan.
  • Provides support and oversight to ensure unified planning, program, and development efforts in coordination with the OWB community.
  • Develops and coordinates direct communication and public relations strategies to represent the interests of the OWB
  • Coordinates grant and fundraising efforts to increase financial resources for OWB with the support of the Board of Directors.
  • Directs and coordinates OWB financial and budget activities to fund operations, maximize investments, and increase efficiency.
  • Manages and provides oversight of OWB properties including but not limited to operations, maintenance, and improvements.
  • Coordinates projects such as property renovations, open space enhancements, and infrastructure projects. 
  • Serves on civic committees and boards throughout the Erie community. 
  • Monitors legislation that affects OWB community and the OWB Community Plan.
  • Oversees staff implementing annual OWB events with the Events Committee.
  • Markets and disseminates information pertaining to OWB and its programs and activities. 
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the scope, responsibility, and requirements of the position.

  • Supervisory Responsibilities
    Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Student Experience and accountable to the OWB Board of Directors, the Executive Director supervises staff, volunteers, and student workers.
     
    Contact With Others
    Internal: Has regular contact with OWB employees, the OWB Advisory Committee, the OWB Board of Directors, Gannon University administrators, faculty, and staff.
     
    External: Has regular contact with residents, businesses, landlords, government entities, faith-based leaders, funding representatives and community partners.

    Required Qualifications
    Education: A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
     
    Skills: Must have excellent written and verbal communication abilities as well as strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

    Our West Bayfront Mission: Must be able to support, promote and implement the Our West Bayfront Mission and Community Plan.
    Preferred Qualifications
    Education: A master’s degree is preferred.
    Experience: Preference for candidates who have five years of demonstrated skill and experience in one or more of the following: community building, project management, grant writing, staff supervision, and/or construction and property management.
    Physical Demands
    Must be able to meet the physical demands associated with a busy office environment as well as working in an urban environment.
