The Executive Director of Development, Principal Gifts will strategically engage in and direct qualifying prospects and cultivating relationships with donors who have the capacity to make transformative gifts while leveraging the relationships and vision of University leaders to establish and implement principal gift strategy to advance key University initiatives in a donor-centric environment. Under the direction of the Vice President for University Advancement, and in collaboration with other team members on the Principal Gifts team, within University Advancement and the University, the executive director will design, implement, and manage a principal gift portfolio as well as a comprehensive program to cultivate, secure and track private support from individuals, corporations, and foundations at $5M+. The executive director will integrate and expand programs for principal gifts into a cohesive plan to achieve stated objectives. The primary focus of this position is to provide team leadership and strategy for principal gift fundraising and volunteer management.

Position Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities

1. Serve as a member of the development and University Advancement senior management teams while leading strategy, goal-setting, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of principal level gifts ($1M+). Develop annual and multi-year principal gift fundraising plans to support transformational funding priorities that advance key unit and University priorities and initiatives. Oversee discovery efforts to enhance and grow the principal gift development pipeline. Achieve annual and campaign goals. (30%)

2. Maintain knowledge of all priorities within the University, utilizing intelligence to lead strategy development for high-level donor-centric solicitations. Provide advice and counsel to development officers regarding high-level strategies and collaborative opportunities regarding unit-specific volunteer boards and committees. (20%)

3. Solicit and close principal and transformative gifts from prospects exceeding $5 million capacity in support of funding priorities. Build, develop and manage a portfolio of 30-40 principal gift prospects. (40%)

4. Prepare and monitor budgets. Perform other duties as assigned or requested. (10%)

Requisite Qualifications

* Typically a Bachelor's Degree is required. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.

* Minimum ten years of successful major and principal gift fundraising experience. Experience in raising funds from individuals; preference for demonstrated success as a creative and effective manager with expertise in personnel management, strategic planning, program implementation, and fiscal management; preferred experience in an academic environment, especially at large, complex institutions; demonstrate success in developing an effective volunteer structure.

* Demonstrated ability to set priorities, coordinate multiple projects and personally ask and close gifts. Willingness to travel and work occasional weekend/evening hours. Deal effectively and comfortably with high-level donor prospects. A self-directed worker who is personable and well organized. Utilize a creative approach to fundraising projects. Ability to effectively communicate the vision, values and mission of Loyola Marymount University.

* Experience in preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries incorporating complex, highly technical information.

* Highly developed organizational, communication and leadership skills.

* Demonstrated computer competency and preferably knowledgeable of Microsoft Office products as well as familiarity with the Advance system or an equivalent system.

Salary range

$124,200.00 - $181,400.00 Salary commensurate with education and experience.
