Essential Job Duties
Reporting to the Director for Special Projects, Planning and Strategic Initiatives, this is the primary staff support position for the Dean of Engineering and represents the Dean and the College of Engineering both to the University and college communities and to a diverse constituency outside the University and globally.
This position plays a critical role in the college. Not only is this position the primary support for the Dean; it also plays a principal role in the operation and administration of the college and serves as a primary conduit between the Dean and the college departments and units. Principal functions include:
• Organizing and managing work flow in the Dean’s office as if affects both internal and external constituencies
• Understanding and following policies and procedure of the College and the University that impact the College administration and its programs; informing and assuring others of up-to-date policies
• Representing the Dean’s office and serving as an effective communicator both in oral and written communications
• Anticipating and identifying problems for the Dean and possible conflicting objectives, accessing information and assisting in providing solutions for individual and organizational problems
• Implementing project management approaches in establishing, monitoring, and completing projects for the Dean
• Exercising positive interpersonal skills in gaining cooperation from others and in negotiating or resolving conflicts
• Contributing to the identification, accessing and retrieval of data needed by the Dean
• Integrating technology into the work of the Dean’s office and in relationship to departments and offices of the College

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Other Required Qualifications
  • It is essential that this position possess “soft skills” (behavioral competencies) to complement hard skills. For example: 
    • Strong communication skills and a good listener that can conduct insightful conversations with internal and external audiences; 
    • Considerable knowledge and use of leadership skills; ability to supervise personnel in a manner conducive to efficient performance, production and high morale.
    • Exceptional positive interpersonal skills to provide high quality customer service to a wide variety of partnerships.

  • Demonstrated track record of assuming increasing levels of responsibility in the realms of administrative or office management. 
  • Proficient implementing project management methods to ensure successful project execution.
  • Ability to utilize office software (Word, Excel, etc.) and technology to support efficient and effective operations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in administrative and budgetary management. Such as:
    •  Managing an executive/administrator’s calendar (including meetings, appointments, and travel). 
    • Familiarity with Gmail and Google Calendar are a plus.

  • Demonstrated capability to seamlessly integrate emerging technologies into project workflows
  • Familiarity with University Policies, Rules and Regulations
  • Proven experience in the Higher Education sector, providing valuable insights and expertise
