The Preuss School UCSD is a charter middle and high school dedicated to providing a rigorous college prep education for motivated low-income students who will become the first in their families to graduate from college. As part of UCSD, a major research institution, The Preuss School also serves as a model school to study and develop best practices in the preparation of low-income urban students for college admission to be disseminated to improve public education.

The incumbent provides confidential administrative and operational support to the The Preuss School, including but not limited to calendar and travel management for Executive Director, Principal, Vice Principal and Chief Administrative Officer. Manages sensitive and confidential information regarding bargaining unit issues. Scheduling and coordination of events, meetings, and maintenance of conference rooms. Independently coordinate substitutes for teacher absences. Prepares correspondence and other written materials for department management and/or faculty requiring some specialized knowledge of the subject matter. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, staff, and the public.

  • Occasional overtime and weekends for school special events may be required.

  • Strong demonstrated executive-level administrative skills including experience with complex calendaring and travel coordination.

  • Thorough knowledge of administrative procedures and processes including word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

  • Requires good verbal and written communication skills, active listening, critical thinking, multi-tasking and time management skills.

  • Skill in managing sensitive and confidential information regarding bargaining unit issues.

  • Requires interpersonal and work leadership skills to provide guidance to other nonexempt personnel.

  • Excellent organization skills - able to multi-task and prioritize efficiently and effectively.

  • Proven experience working effectively and sensitively with persons from diverse backgrounds.

  • Effective word processing skills with experience in the use of email, online environments, website management, web-based applications and various software applications such as Microsoft office products.

  • Proven skill performing work at a high level of accuracy and completeness. Ability to proofread own work and the work of others with attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated experience in the correct use of English grammar, punctuation, formatting and spelling sufficient to compose clear and concise correspondence, notes, and newsletter articles.

  • Demonstrated skill in independently organizing and prioritizing high volume of work with strict attention to detail and meeting deadlines during peak periods while responding to divergent pressures while working in an environment with frequent interruptions.

  • Must pass a Tuberculosis (TB) screening.

  • Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results (LiveScan).

  • Duties may require direct contact and/or supervision of children (defined as individuals under the age of 18); serves as a mandatory reporter in support of the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA)


Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $52,100 - $87,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $24.95 - $42.10

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
